I believe when talking about life insurance, we have to start with the roots. The most crucial questions is, How to choose life insurance?

There are five crucial points to consider:

  1. How much financial cover do you need
  2. What type of policy do you need
  3. If you qualify for preferred rates
  4. If you qualify at all
  5. How to choose the right insurer

Great brief points Lorne. Thank you so much for submitting this to The Self-Directed Investor group here on Gather.com. Though life insurance isn't something you can usually build into an I.R.A., it is a definite consideration for estate planning or for disability or terminally illness coverage.

A good primer on life insurance selection process. I always recommend level term-life insurance with face amount of 8 to 10 times your annual earnings if you are married and have children. Most people can't afford a whole life or cash value life insurance with the same face amount.
