At the end of this season's finale, "Pyramid," NCIS showed the new SECNAV (Matt Craven) reading Tony into a top-secret assignment - to take down someone in the agency who was selling classified information. He gave him the photograph of the person he will be handling, but viewers were not treated to that information yet.
Who will Tony be investigating?
Gary Glasberg has said that the identity of the person in the photograph will be revealed in the season 9 premiere, and "it will be a difficult task for Tony." Who could be pictured in that photograph? Could it be someone on Gibbs' team? Could it be EJ? She did remove that microchip from Levin's arm in autopsy, and it looked possible that she knew it was there. Who do you think it will turn out to be?
Speaking of the new SECNAV, Glasberg said to expect him to "insinuate himself into their world in a way the previous secretary didn't." He also hinted that this could "bring Vance and the team closer." Vance and Gibbs have always had some tension, so perhaps they'll join forces against the new SECNAV. It sounds like Matt Craven will be around more than Jude Ciccolella was.
Romance
In the season finale, EJ congratulated Jimmy on his upcoming wedding, a nice little side bit that also caused some fans to worry that he would be the one to die (good news is never a good thing for someone when they're taking care of a serial killer like Jonas Cobb). Fortunately, he survived, and Glasberg teases, "We may have a spring wedding to consider, which hasn't happened on the show." These characters do deserve some happiness, especially after losing Mike Franks (though he could be returning "not as a ghost, but Gibbs' conscience"). Unfortunately it didn't look like he would've been alive much longer even if he hadn't been killed; he showed up at Gibbs' obviously sick, and Gibbs had been working on his coffin all season.
Jimmy won't necessarily be the only one with a love life next season. Glasberg has said, "A new love interest could surface for one of our main people as well." Who could he be talking about? Could Tony be moving on from EJ (though she did say she may be sticking around DC) or Ziva from Ray (he did leave to go take care of Kort)? Sarah Jane Morris and Enrique Murciano aren't necessarily gone from NCIS forever. Could the love interest be for McGee or Abby, meaning more jealously from the other? Maybe Gibbs will be finding his next wife.
