Supernatural just ended its sixth season, but that doesn't mean fans haven't received a bit of scoop about next year. Season 6 ended on cliffhanger, leaving viewers wanting more as soon as it ended. So what's coming up in the fall for the Winchesters?
The CW issued a press release for the upcoming SPN season:
"In season seven, the Winchesters will find themselves in an increasingly sinister, changing landscape, up against a new foe unlike anything they've ever fought. They'll find their old tricks, weapons and hiding places all rendered useless. All they'll have is each other. And the certainty that, like the last of the cowboy outlaws, whatever they face, they're not going down without a fight."
At least it sounds like the Winchester brotherly bond will continue to play a role after they finally got back on track at the end of last season when Sam got his soul back. Things were strained between the brothers for a few seasons now, especially since Dean returned from hell in season 4. However, considering they're down a few allies, after Castiel killed Balthazar (but remember, on this show, dead doesn't always mean gone forever) and made himself the new God, it's a good thing they're back to standing strong together. And besides, that is what the show has always been about.
So what will happen with the Castiel-as-the-new-God story line? It has been revealed that Misha Collins is not returning as a series regular next season - but that doesn't mean he won't be back. Jim Beaver has never been a series regular and he has played an important role on the show since he was first introduced in the Supernatural season 1 finale, "Devil's Trap." Just how far will Castiel go with this new power? He has already said he has plans for Crowley and Raphael's followers and his final words in the finale, "The Man Who Knew Too Much," to Sam, Dean, and Bobby ("I'm your new God, a better one. So you will bow down and profess your love unto me, your Lord. Or I shall destroy you.") were threatening. How will they face off against Castiel, who has all that power? He knows so much about them that it makes sense the press release says that "their old tricks, weapons and hiding places [are] all rendered useless." (Though perhaps now would've been a good time to have the amulet Sam gave Dean for Christmas in 1991 that burns hot in God's presence. Too bad Dean threw it out at the end of "Dark Side of the Moon." Fans are still hoping that wasn't the last they'll see of it.)
However, they do have to worry about what it means now that Sam's wall has broken, also Castiel's doing. Sam faced pieces of himself, RoboSam and Hell Sam, to get back to his brother, but now he has those memories, and though he did get to Dean and Bobby by the end, he was having flashes of hell and that's bound to have some consequences. Dean dealt with his memories of hell when he returned in season 4 by drinking - a lot. How will Sam cope? Will he even have time to with everything else going on?
What do you think will happen in Supernatural season 7?
