Still Without My Car...

My Car, a Kia Sorento, is still sitting in my parents driveway broken down. Not because we dont know how to fix it...we know exactly what is wrong. the bearing for the idler pulley is bad. It is a sealed bearing and took quite a bit of work to get it out. but that isnt the problem...

The problem is that NOBODY has the part! we checked every auto parts store in a 20 mile radius and no luck. no other stores in their chains either. I ordered on online last friday, and the order is still "processing"...meaning they probably dont have it either. Not to mention it would be coming from WA, and i am in MI....

I just ordered another one on another website, so hopefully this one will pull through for me! knowing my luck i will end up with 2 of them...but knowing how hard to find they are...that might not be a bad thing! We have also checked a couple junk yards...no luck. we have one more to check in the area but they close so early its had to get out there when you are working.

Sigh....its a good thing i have such good friends! a family friend (the one i have been working for for a couple weeks has let me borrow her spare truck for the time being. I am only driving from my house to hers, but still, its great that someone is there to help out! But i really would like to have my own car back!

wish me luck...i think i could use it....

Having to share a car is like having to share a computer; better than nothing, but still not "yours." When my computer crapped out last year, I used my iPod Touch for EVERYTHING for about six months. I suppose that in your case, it would be like replacing your car with a skateboard. LOL It'll get you there, but not very conveniently. So glad you have the truck to borrow. I had my hubby's computer to borrow, but it drove me nuts, because he has his computer set up differently than I'm used to.

Wow, Ryan, that has got to be a bummer........makes me wonder if all vehicle parts are going to be as difficult to get......I know that with Toyota, it's about impossible.....which makes me wonder, once again, about what kind of vehicle to get when I'm ready to get one........so much stuff going on, it is worrisome, that's for sure......yes, perhaps it might be good if you did end up with 2 parts, you never know when you might need one again....just hope they're not too terribly expensive. Vehicles are such a pain, aren't they?

if i end up with two, i will sell one for a profit lol. they are obviously hard to come by! i think the issue with this part is that it doesnt go bad too much...its a pretty hidden part and i had trouble just getting the proper name for it! every other part for the car was pretty readily available, at most a days wait...

Sounds like the Andy Griffith Show that my folks were watching today, when Barney needed a new fuel pump! My mom's half-sister has a Kia van so I'll have to ask her if she has a problem getting parts. My brothers used to have the same deal with their Subarus -- parts were either hard to find or extra-expensive. With cars it's always something. I guess I'll have to get a scooter some time. if i could get by with a scooter i would! but hauling lumber and drywall with a scooter is a little hard on the back...lol

I have told my friend I was going to get a golf cart .Some people in the town I just moved from actually did get one and drives it around wherever they want to go. LOL ;.)

...well hmmm, guess that's what you get for not buying american? and you live in MI oooo naughty you....do people try to run you off the road here? Ok joking but do the parts come from Japan? Everyone is going to be effected by that so you might be waiting awhile, perhaps you need to do some junk yard skulking for old parts!

I wonder if the person with the truck would let you rent it from her. That way you would be paying for her insurance on the truck. You would have a truck to use for work, then have your car when it all put back togather.

...I had a 73; 125 Honda motorcycle, and a wipeout busted up my assembly for the throttle grip.
AT the time of the accident, the bike was 3 years old.
...They had to send to Japan for that grip assembly. I asked for them to temp weld it so that I could use it.
...Took 3 months to get it.

Hope you get the part soon! Are the Sorrento's otherwise pretty reliable? That's pretty high up on my list of cars that I'm thinking about getting.

6 years and 168,000 miles and this was the first part to need replacing...that should say a lot!
