The NBA Mock Draft 2011 speculation continues to debate and project which NCAA or foreign players will go where in the 2011 NBA Draft. One of the draft lottery teams is the Detroit Pistons, a team formerly considered top-caliber, now searching for answers.
According to the draft lottery results from Tuesday's event on ESPN, Detroit will have the 8th pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. The Pistons finished this past season with a record of 30-52, which was second to last in the Central division. Looking at the roster, it would appear this team is stacked with enough talent to do something special. All-stars Richard Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince, Ben Wallace, and Tracy McGrady are part of a team also including talents Rodney Stuckey, Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva.
The Detroit Pistons' biggest loss was leader Chauncey Billups to Denver a few seasons back. Current speculation has them eyeing a forward though. NBADraft.net has projected they will take San Diego State's Kawhi Leonard. Leonard is a 6'7" small forward who could add extra talent off the bench or even win a starting role.
ESPN's Chad Ford believes they'll go with a power forward, Tristan Thompson of Texas. To further shake things up, DraftExpress.com has them going with a center. They believe the Pistons take Enes Kanter a 6'10" 250 pound 18-year-old out of Turkey, who was supposed to play at Kentucky.
Of course the other option is for the Pistons to put together an enticing trade package with one of the teams above them in the 2011 NBA Draft Lottery. They could certainly move up to the Cavs' #4 pick if the Cavs were interested in what they had to offer. That's up to the Pistons' management though, if they're willing to give up some players.
