Random Question: What's really going on with wild fires in Texas & the President?

I read in a Fellow Gather-er's Post that Texas was being denied the ability to declare a disaster to help with these raging fires by the President. I could not discuss it, really, because I had no idea of the criteria for declaring disasters. Now, I'm reading that the Texas battle with fires does not meet the criteria to be declared a disaster area AND the state is receiving what it is eligible for -- while CUTTING it's own people. Well, Gail, I don't know about the specifics, but since the governor of Texas was threatening to secede, I can't really say much more than, "Don't come crying to me."

I hear that. I'm just very curious to know if this kind of behavior is 2012 campaign work or ignorance of the rules. And I agree -- if you take your marbles and go home, stay home.

The Gov. & the Sen's. are full of it. Just your typical GOP Obama bashing. FEMA is giving them all the help that they need. I thought that they, as well as Ron Paul didn't want the Federal "Gummint" to be "Messin' with Texas."

When I retired after 8 years in Texas. I took I-35 North (The best thing to ever come out of Texas) back home to Minnesota, EM. (With apologies to the few friends that I have in Texas.) I thought Gov. Perry was going to secede from the Union. Are they still here?

As I said above I was wondering if this was 2012 campaign work. It is amazing how far some of this governors will go/in a whole lot of ways.

I know when California and Oregon had their problems with wildfires, those liberal states were assisted by government army troops sent in by President Bush. They were to assist firefighters in building fire breaks and fighting the fires. I know this because my son was one of those who helped, and said it some of the hardest work he has ever done. I know the troops are stretched thin, but if there is damage that could be repaired by the lower cost loans that emergency declarations bring, why should they not have them?

Well, according the to link they are getting what they are eligible for and not getting what they are not eligible for. And I've seen nothing that says to me the President is making decisions on this at all.

This issue would NOT have legs if not for the coming elections and the recent statements like those of Newt: calling POTUS 44 the "...food-stamp President"!

Or, is Texas accustomed to receiving aid for that which they do NOT qualify...the good ole boys are not in charge of that "Welfare stream" these days.

I find it a bit concerning that many (including many in Congress) don't seem to know what the President's job is --
as he said while finishing off the FY2011 Budget he should not have to
be supervising them
and I'd say he should not have to be supervising FEMA either.
There are oversight committees for this kind of stuff.

Ironic, that which is unpopular is the fault of POTUS 44! The southern states and Iowa appear to be hot beds for throwing shots at POTUS 44, for self entertainment value, as if it would not escape their boarders. The thinking\voting public must be saturated with their absurdities! I can only hope!

There were massive tornados in other places that resulted in many deaths and Texas was complaining that they werent getting priority.

Yes. That's what the poster I referred to said and that I was I asked -- well -- what are the eligibilities, etc.? Clearly the massive tornados would take priority and as the linked article says -- Texas is getting what it is eligible for. So, what's the problem. Oh. Must be OBAMA.
