Chaz Bono, the daughter-turned-son of legendary musicians Cher and Sonny Bono, is engaged to his longtime girlfriend, Jennifer Elia.
Technically, the pair has been engaged for nearly two years, though a formal announcement has only just come out. Why? The couple frankly has had other priorities, as Chaz Bono recently underwent the lengthy transition from woman to man, including gender reassignment surgery.
As tough as it may be to put wedding planning on the back burner, the two likely feel that their decision was extremely worthwhile: Now that Chaz Bono is officially a man - and recognized as such in the eyes of the courts - the two can marry legally!
As for any wedding details that have been decided thus far, Chaz Bono has expressed some desire for his stepmother, Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack, to officiate the wedding. How might Cher feel about that?
Though it has clearly been a long and stressful road for the couple, their engagement and subsequent wedding are glorious news. Here's to hoping that Chaz and his bride-to-be get the happily ever after they deserve!
