German Comedy: Loriot - The Yodeling Diploma (Das Jodeldiplom)

Ok, I am trying something new here after browsing Youtube. I have found some German comedy videos with English subtitles, so that everyone here should be able to follow it.

Today, I will present you the Yodeling Diploma by Loriot.

Loriot (you do not speak out the "t" as it is intended to sound French, don't ask me why...) is a very famous German Comedian. He mady many famous sketches, especially in the 70s and 80s and almost everyone does know him and his sketches.

The Yodeling Diploma is about a class for adults, who are learning yodeling. Yodeling is a typical Bavarian (south Germany) form of... well, probably art. It is neither singing nor speaking. Don't expect Bavarians to do this. It is probably as old-fashioned and stereotyped as Geishas in Japan.

You also should know, that we Germans are crazy about certificates and diplomas. you get them in school, in universities, for every course you make. Employers need to see them. Without a certificate, you did not participate in the course.
So you even get certificates for courses that are more or less a hobby, like making pottery or things like that. We are proud of our certificates


The Yodeling Diploma does (or did) not really exist. The sketch just made fun of all the certificates. But... you may already guess it, you can buy a Yodeling Diploma just for fun and I bet that you can even participate in such a course for tourists in the Bavarian or Austrian Alps. I really BET and I am afraid I will win
