The following is written about Nova Scotia:

Near the Sea

Now and then...

When the summer wind

sighs its humid breath

through the emerald trees,

you can hear the ocean

calling to your heart.

For the light scent of salt

rides wild in the breeze.

Close your eyes and see,

the strong waves rolling

wet over rock and sand,

leaving their touch behind;

offerings of seaweed and shell,

a mosaic along the scenic shore.

Now and then...

Your spirit sings to the sea

always on the far horizon

where ghosts and pirates roam.

It is beautiful in the Maritimes. My father-in-law was born on PEI, and when my children were young, we'd go up there for the summer. The scenery is as beautiful as your words... the air does smell so clean... 'tis a better life there than here in some ways... I want to go back...your poem just makes me ache all the more...

This is a beautiful area; I live not far from the Bay of Fundy.

I love the ride between St Stephen, NB and St. John along the north side of tThe Bay of Fundy, and the Reversing Falls...Grand Manan...I love it up there...PEI is so wholesome...they have concerts playing Folk songs and Irish dancing...
I'd never seen the like...like going back in time... :)

Ah, La Mer... there is something about the sea that draws us to its shores; regardless of the season, I love to walk along the strand as the waves crash and offer us the fragrance of the sea.

Ditto, Mustafa !! I live 8 minutes drive away from the Pacific Ocean, and my favorite walk is along the Seven Mile Beach !

So beautiful a scene, Audrey...splendid writing which resonates with me, touching me deeply. I adore the ocean, everything you portrayed in your poem. Nothing brings life back into perspective than watching across the sea to the horizon, listening to the rhythm of the waves, their eternal song.

Thanks. Nova Scotia is a peninsula surrounded by the ocean, so the sea is in your blood if you live here.

I want to go to Nova Scotia so badly...I've had people describe it to me as Montana next to the ocean. Oh, to have the best of both worlds! I can smell the salt and pine mingling now. Thanks for posting!
