What happens to our spirits when we pass?

I was having a conversation with my friend today and we kind of started talking about religion! Now me and her grew up under different beliefs so it got kind of interesting. One of the questions she asked me was, "What do I think happens to our spirit when we die?" I thought about it. Honestly I don't really have an answer. I mean it's a nice thought that there is a heaven but also there can't me a heaven without hell. Unless the hell is us staying on earth watching people live on. I mean I can't think anything worst then me watching someone eat my favorite food and I can't, or doing other things that I won't be able to do.

So now I'm curious, What do you think? What do you think happens to our spirits when we're gone or should I say "when we pass"? Do you think we're reborn? Or do you believe heaven?
I really would like to know!

The question assumes we have a spirit. Actually, we don't know that. It can't be proven that we do and it can't be proven that we don't. But there's also the possibility that we are just holographic computer generated simulations in an extraordinarily sophisticated program. In that case, we don't have a spirit. I guess the best we could hope for is some sort of a connection back to the original source code. :-)

Gary I agree with you. it's can't be proven it's all on belief. But in my opinion if we were computer generated simulations wouldn't someone or something have to make us? Just a thought!

That's true. Someone or something would have to have created the program that's running the simulation. Maybe that someone or something would have a spirit but still, if we're just simulated beings generated by the program, then it's not likely that we'd have a spirit component. But I guess we'd have to define what "spirit" is. How would you define spirit?

By the way, have you ever seen the movie, The Thirteenth Floor? It's a similar concept to The Matrix. It came out about the same time but didn't have the mega-millions advertising bucks that Matrix had so hardly anyone knew about it. Too bad. It's a great movie. I actually liked it better than The Matrix.

No I haven't but I looked it up on Netflix and saw the trailer. It looks really interesting I'm gonna rent it! Thanks I was running out of movie to rent!

as a spiritualist minister, i believe that our spirits are eternal.....i know that there is "life after death", because i and many other people can communitcate with thouse who have passed on to the other side.....

i also believe in reincarnation, and have memories of many past lives....

p.s. the other side is heaven.....as for the "evil" people: there is not a real hell for them when they pass on, but there is some isolation and re-education....

Yes, I was thinking of that too. I hear stories about people communicating with people from the after life. It's hard to believe there isn't more!
