Zooey Deschanel has been swooning hipster boys ever since she graced the screen in Cameron Crowe's Almost Famous. Now, the Manic Pixie Dream Girl will break the hearts of a million other hopefuls fighting for her object of affection, as she's just become the new face of primetime television.
Fox has announced that it will place The New Girl for the upcoming 2011-2012 schedule on Monday nights. The single-camera sitcom from 20th Television is the first live-action acquired by Fox, which is already counting on new shows Napoleon Dynamite and Allen Gregory to continue their tradition of delivering succesful animated proposals. The Deschanel-starring series is expected to fill the void left by Human Target and Breaking In after both were canned, just in time to present next week's network television upfronts.
Deschanel stars as Jessica Day, a quirky teacher who moves in with three guys after she gets dumped. According to IMDB, it will focus on debating the sexual politics of men and women. The two men she will share the apartment with, that will probably be much luxurious than their income suggests, are Damon Wayans Jr. as Coach and up-and-comer Jack M. Johnson playing the role of Nick.
