Arizona voters working on the recall of State Senator Russell Pearce are nearing the May 31st deadline. The recall effort has the backing of two groups: Arizonans for Better Government and Citizens for a Better Arizona.
Yesterday Arizonans for Better Government ended their effort to recall Senate President Russell Pearce. In order for a recall vote to take place, they need to acquire 7,756 signatures. As Citizens for a Better Arizona (CBA) only need a few hundred more signatures to ratify the recall vote, Arizonans for Better Government are placing their energy in support of the CBA's petition.
When the recall petition has the needed signatures, the state has to hold an election for legislative district 18. State Senator Russell Pearce may choose to resign his seat or run against a new candidate. Arizonans for Better Government are looking forward to the recall election. They have begun the search for Pearce's opponent.
A recall election will prove to be an interesting race. There is a deep divide between Russell Pearce supporters and those protesting his political agenda. The Senate President wrote the controversial SB 1070 last year. A year later, SB 1070 is still making headlines. Many eyes are on Arizona to see if the author of the immigration bill still holds enough sway to keep his senate seat.
May 31st is a few weeks away. Arizonans are encouraged to head over to the Mesa public library and add their signature to the recall petition. CBA is looking for district 18 voters to come out and show Senate President Russell Pearce they are not happy with the direction he has taken Arizona.
