Research in Motion announced the new Blackberry Bold 9930 at the Blackberry World conference in Florida. The new smart phone is the next model in the Bold line. The new phone offers new features under the hood and a thinner profile, but the overall look of the phone did not change.
Features
The Blackberry Bold 9000/9300 offers upgraded software to the new OS 7, a new 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor, HTML5 support, voice search and HD video recording. Other features include a mobile payment option, a touch screen interface and a JavaScript compiler for faster browsing.
Carriers
Verizon Wireless will probably carry the 9930 due to the CDMA GSM dual-mode feature that allows the phone to work globally. The 9000 is destined for the T-Mobile's 4G network.
Best for Business
The BlackBerry Bold does not feature the flash of some of the newer smartphones offered by Apple, HP or Samsung, but it offers features the business set craves. A stable platform, speed, security features and a built-in keyboard which allows business users have a mobile communication device that seamlessly integrates into corporate networks.
Reactions
While the new Bold does offer some needed upgrades for Internet connectivity, video and speed, it is not a game changer. It will be a nice upgrade for those who are already hooked into the Blackberry Bold line, but it will not draw personal users away from the flashier iPhone or HTC EVO options. Using the phone T-Mobile's 4G network will be appealing for business users who need high-speed Internet access while on the go.
