The second round of the NBA playoffs continued on Monday as two series began play. The Atlanta Hawks surprised the Bulls 103-95 in Chicago to take a 1-0 lead in their best of seven series. In the Western Conference, Dallas made it a clean sweep for the road teams as they defeated the LA Lakers 96-94.
Atlanta used tough defense and good shooting in their victory. The Hawks guard Joe Johnson was the game high scorer with 34 points on 12-18 shooting from the floor. Guard Jamal Crawford came off the bench to add 22 points and three assists as the Hawks made 40-78 shots on the night. Derrick Rose led the Bulls with 24 points, but made just 11-27 field goal attempts.
The Mavericks outscored the Lakers 25-16 in the fourth quarter to earn their come-from-behind victory. Dallas forward Dirk Nowitzki scored a team high 28 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the late charge by the Mavericks. The bench of Dallas added a big boost of offense as they outscored the Lakers bench 40-25. LA was led by guard Kobe Bryant who scored a game high 36 points, but his last second shot rimmed out to give Dallas the victory.
The NBA playoff action continues on Tuesday as Boston looks to even the series with Miami after a 99-90 defeat this weekend. Memphis will look to grab another road victory when they face the Thunder in Oklahoma City on Tuesday night.
