There is a saying that goes, "He who laughs first, laughs last." In this case, President Barack Obama is may still be laughing in the White House. After both Mr. Obama and Seth Meyers relentlessly joked on Saturday about Donald Trump and his potential presidency, the White House announced the death of Osama bin Laden on Sunday, interrupting Trump's hit show Celebrity Apprentice. What impeccable timing for the Obama camp! After a month of enduring malicious attacks on his character and credentials, Obama fired back.
During Saturday's White House Correspondent's Association Dinner, President Barack Obama enlisted the services of Saturday Night Live's head writer Seth Meyers to assist him with the roast of Trump. Obama began the festivities by showing a clip of Americanism with his birth certificate popping up throughout the video. Of course, Trump is known for alluding to the fact that Obama is not a U.S. citizen. However, the president didn't stop there. He went on to state that now that his birth certificate issue is done, Donald Trump can focus on more important things, like finding out if the moon landing was legit and "where's Biggie and Tupac?", two iconic rappers whose deaths are still surrounded with questions.
To "The Donald's" credit, he did laugh at a couple of Mr. Obama's jokes but then Seth Meyers stepped to the podium. Meyers ripped Trump, beginning with his presidency: "Donald Trump often talks about running as a Republican, which is surprising. I just assumed he was running as a joke." He then moved on to his potential running mate: "Donald Trump owns the Miss USA pageant, which is great for Republicans because it will streamline their search for vice president." If you didn't know, Sarah Palin was a former beauty queen-turned-politician. Meyers even through in a couple of jokes about Obama's political competition and his grey hair: "When you were sworn in you looked like the guy from the Old Spice commercials. Now, you look like Louis Gossett Sr."
Donald Trump was visibly upset with Seth Meyers' remarks but imagine how he was feeling Sunday night. Right before Trump revealed who he'd fire on Celebrity Apprentice, NBC interrupted with a news break regarding an Obama speech about Osama bin Laden. Now, granted, this is normal if the information that will be released is definitely important. The capture and death of the mastermind behind the September 11 attacks will bring an appreciably amount of closure to those who have been since affected by the tragedy, that goes without saying. However, the ironic part about it is that it took the President roughly 45 minutes to speak regarding the situation. Many people believe that it was a ploy by the Obama camp to derail Trump. Some believe that Osama has been dead. Others believe it was just happenstance. What are your thoughts?
