Scarlett Johansson and Sean Penn chose the White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday night to confirm those rampant relationship rumors that have been circling for a few months.
Unusual timing to go public on their budding romance - at a political dinner? Perhaps so. But, Johansson and Penn are indeed an unusual couple, beginning with their near 25-year age gap.
Even more significant was how the actors chose to announce their "togetherness" during the dinner. Although not seated together, Johansson left her chair at Arianna Huffington's table right after the main course, (steak and scallops for those interested foodies), and high-tailed it across the banquet room to track down Penn.
After some whispering, the duo exited the room together and, in so doing, tacitly and understatedly confirmed months of romance gossip. It was apparently just a cigarette that beckoned Scarlett Johansson and Sean Penn outside, but it was a very significant smoking break at that.
Later photos also caught Scarlett Johansson, 26, and Sean Penn, 50, holding hands on their way to the White House Correspondents' Dinner after party - a Vanity Fair/Bloomberg bash. So, the night was indeed a double whammy that solidified the couple's dating status.

Donning an aqua, knee-length Elie Saab gown, Chopard jewels and newly red locks, Scarlett Johansson cut a pretty profile at the political dinner and after party. However, despite her elegant appearance, there was no hiding the age difference between her and the much older and much older looking Sean Penn.
