A Washington Post/ABC News poll released this morning finds that 44 percent, a plurality, of Americans think the economy is getting worse, rather than staying the same or getting better. With unemployment hovering around 9.6 percent while economic inequality is at levels not seensince the Depression, many Americans feel as if the economy is leaving them behind.
The Wall Street Journal reports today that Corporate America certainly isn't doing its part to help bring America out of its economic malaise. The paper surveyed employment data by some of the nation's largest corporations - General Electric, Caterpillar, Microsoft, Wal-Mart, Chevron, Cisco, Intel, Stanley Works, Merck, United Technologies, and Oracle - and found that they cut their workforces by 2.9 million people over the last decade while hiring 2.4 million people overseas....

In 2007 my husband was laid off from IBM. Before he was laid off, a friend who was a manager there had her whole staff in AMERICA. After he was laid off the month with over 1,000 other employees, she mentioned she had to fly to India... why? She had to meet her new staff, in India...
It is cheaper to hire foreign nationals who live here too. Many times they get hired here and then go back and stay working for American firms back to their native company.
Now it's not just that these people have outsourced jobs... when they are in their native countries... they are spending what they make ... there not here. I wonder if they pay us taxes? Probably not.
And we wonder how our countries economic situation is like it is?
Do you know how many people I've talked to that didn't feel outsourcing had much to do with it...
And it's not just that... Companies here can't compete with companies overseas. One factory shut down because they lost the contract to provide pipe for the Alaskan pipeline, I believe, because a foreign company's bid was lower, even though they made it elsewhere and had to ship it... course when workers get a buck or less a day, one can do that. It's outsourcing jobs, but it's also letting foreign companies bid and provide services here too.
You don't see it in the Vonnage ad, but if you ask their personnel where they are... it' s not here.. they might speak English, but the people you contact are not in America. Call up Amazon and you'll get the same thing. One man I talked to was flattered when I asked what country he was in.... I could tell because he read from a script and had no idea what I was saying at all. It's awful...bad enough to get a computer... and when you get a human being... they have no idea what you are saying... same pat answer over and over. I wish I had taped one of the conversations I had with an Amazon call...
when half the country thinks that they can live in gated communities, apart from society because they can afford bottled water, better schools and private police forces....when they steal 90% of the country's wealth thru laws passed by bought for politicians.....
Have you heard about benton WI? a poor community with one asset.....a beachfront park....it was just 'taken ob=ver' by the Republican Governor.....the upshot? the public beach will become a private golf course....5000 a year to join! the income in Benton is 10500 a year!
that's what we're headed for here....a banana republic.
