Julia Louis-Drefus is all set to star in a new HBO sitcom, called “Veep.” The comedy is inspired and overseen by Armando Iannucci, who is a British writer. He created a show on BBC comedy, called “The Thick of It,” which was about a “British government minister and his staff.”
Does the British sitcom sound interesting? No. Hopefully, Iannucci will find a more interesting topic than life in the government for the HBO siticom. Unfortunately, it does not sound any more interesting. See for yourself.
“Veep” will be about Selina Meyer, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, as she journeys from a Senator toward the presidency. Meyer discovers some unexpected surprises on the way to President of the United States, even though people cautioned her about the trials and tribulations of campaigning.
DoesnÂ’t that sound interesting? It sounds as stale as week old bread, to be quite frank. IsnÂ’t it a given that campaigning for president has its challenges?
Both “Veep” and “The Thick of It” will have a similar humor and style being they are created by the same author and director. Iannucci directed and co-wrote the 2009 movie, “In the Loop.” Several characters from the movie came from the BBC series. Being the British sitcom and movie were successful, maybe, the American sitcom has hope.
Anna Chlumsky from “In the Loop” will star as Selina’s chief of staff, while Tony Hale from “Arrested Development” will star as her aide.
For now, donÂ’t wait with bated breath. Can you imagine Louis-Dreyfus in a political comedy? She is certainly hilarious and sarcastic, but how humorous can a presidential campaign be? Is the former "Seinfeld" actress desperate for the limelight? She is far too talented for this piece of work.
