The Terminal Catarrh of Rational Discourse II

Ah, yes, the political spectrum, that twistable, bendable, slideable, strethcable, "over the rainbow" Glockamorra territory of the political imagination.

I prefer to categorize folks by where they are on the spectrum that runs from thoughtful and informed to mindless sound-bite vomiting droids with bad spell-checkers.

OK, here's the rest:

I'm glad to hear the ancient Hitler had Jewish ancestors myth crop up again. I'm sure that means that regardless of your Jewish ancestors, if you hate Jews enough you can become a realio trulio Nazi. All you have to do is pass the written and oral exams that are standard among antisemitic organizations and undergo a routine background investigation. Yup. I'm positive.

I think the George Soros hating Jews thing stems from Soros' unwillingness to approve of everything Israel does. I'm not sure though. I suppose that because I think that Charlie Rangel is a crook I hate Democrats.

I don't know why people want to see people whose political opinions they like as occupants of one end or the other of the political spectrum. I don't see that occupancy of the political center is intrinsically good. I'm happy out here on the left end and don't see why people on the other extreme want to stake out the center. It raises the question, who is to the right of them? It seems to me that if you think your opinions are correct, where you stand on the political spectrum isn't that important.

I'm also happy to see the word "communist." Ever since the fall of the Soviet Union communism has disappeared from the closets and from under the beds of most people. The current monster found in dark places in the bedroom is the terrorist. I'd make an awful terrorist. I don't want to kill large or even small numbers of innocent people. I don't believe that most questions that don't involve measurement to an agreed standard of precision or something like that have one and only one right answer.

The other thing that always strikes me when I get sucked into a discussion like this beside the obvious self loathing that wasting time causes me is that the people who made the comments probably are eligible to vote and exercise their franchise at every opportunity.

Thinking Charlie Rangel is a crook makes you a racist. Not enough to get you a KKK membership though.

I'm just amazed at all that info on your psyche you got for free! Just think how much that analysis would have cost you if you'd have consulted professionals with actual degrees!

The longer I live on this earth, the scareder I get because of this. My unwavering commitment to democracy actual wavers a hair occasionally because of this. I tell myself that the clueless idiots are also the most vocal. But look at the results of the last election. Sigh.

The Hungarian far right would be surprised to hear Soros hates the Jews. By their telling, all the development money, all the scholarships, everything Soros has ever given to the country of his birth has gone to Jews only...

Charlie Rangel--I thought about including "light skinned black men" with Democrats but then thought "Nahh." :)

George Soros--Reading about Glenn Beck's departure from Fox yesterday I found out that Beck targeted Soros repeately. Apparently Soros escaped the Holocaust by posing as the godson of a man who worked in the Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture. Soros, like a fair number of Jews, cooperated with the Nazis a bit more than a lot of people find seemly. I remember cooperation with the Nazis being a big issue among Jews when I was in high school. There were Jews in the concentration camps who were like trustys in prison. Bruno Bettelheim wrote a book about it. Soros was in his early teens when he escaped from Hungary. His behavior wasn't exactly pure but he wasn't an adult either. Ann Coulter and Glenn Beck have had a lot of fun with it.

Yeah, I've heard the story. He was 14, and he went where his father, who had connections, told him to go. I have no particular feelings about Soros one way or the other, but I don't see what actually happened as similar to being a kapo. (Yeah, that's from his official website, but the story is the same we're hearing from the accusers--in context and with details.)

Agreed, Soros didn't do the things that some of the people in the concentration camps did.

I'm very hesitant to assign much blame to people who didn't behave perfectly morally during the Holocaust. It was a situation where people faced choosing between survival and doing the right thing. People had to live the kinds of things that most people face only in classroom exercises.

I saw the beginning of this exchage, but missed where it turned out you were an illegal commie Nazi from South America. I'm impressed. I few more things on your record, and you're in the same league of treachery as a certain President of the United States.

I only wish I'd profited from my treachery. If I had it to do over again I would have made better financial arrangements. :)

I think I recognize one of them...isnt it the person who strongly affirmed if Obama was elected they were going to Canada and they MEANT IT. Because Obama is a socialist.

I think a deviant IQ test should be par for the course prior to one exercising their privledge to vote.
