An Update on Angela.....(April 5, 2011)

Angela was in to the orthopedic yesterday....and the news is hopeful. She can begin to go back to normal activities next week, but she is suppose to wear the brace for dancing and sports. Angela still isn't suppose to do the leaps and jumps, especially the jump that caused this is the first place. She also has to ice them for 20 minutes after any activity....and I doubt she's looking forward to that.

If Angela has any knee pain, in either knee, we're suppose to call for a note getting her out of PE for another 2 weeks. Angela doesn't want that, so I doubt she'll say much about her knees to me. I'll have to keep an eye out for limping and swelling.

Ohhh, this is a long term thing......grr....but hopefully in 18 mo. (by the time she's about 16), this should end.

Did they give her the bands to use to strengthen her knees? Victoria healed a lot faster than they said she would. She didnt even have to go to Rehab as long as they said she would.

I am hoping that this will be the case for Angela too.

No, no bands....the doctor needs her to finish growing and have the growth plates finish closing. ONce they close, then we'll know how much actually damage she has in her knees.

I still pay for all the damage, i did to my knees as a kid skateboarding and skating. getting a kid to take it easy at that age is not going to be fun id get busted up and right back at it.
now i have to take motrin just to get threw the day hopefully she will take it easy when she need to

I was already told that I'll need knee replacements when I get older, as I have a lot of damage to the cartiledge in both my knees. Too much basketball, volleyball, softball, track, and cross country as a kid

Hopefully Angela will find putting ice on her knees relieves the pain so much that she'll be willing to o it daily. Sort of tough for a kid as active as she is.

wELL AT LEAST IT IS NOT ANYTHING THE REQUIRES SURGERY AND IT WILL HEAL ON HER OWN. i HOPE SHE REALIZES THAT IF SHE DOESN'T FOLLOW THE DOCTORS INSTRUCTIONS IT COULD END UP MUCH WORSE AND KEEP HER OUT OF ACTIVIES FOR GO

Sounds like she can do most of her activities that she likes as long as she is careful. If she is anything like my niece Myra then you will have your hands full, trying to keep her being careful.

Janet, I'm glad to hear that she won't be needing Surgery. I do Hope her taking the precautions will Help her through all this.

It's now Christopher that worries me. My parents had to take him in last week...it's a big cyst (so they think) on his knee. The docs at Beaumont want him to go in to the University of Michigan hospital for some tests.
