Sorry to hear about your dad.....that must have been very scary, indeed! The smoking thing......well, yes, he does need to quit, but nobody can force him.......he must do it on his own.....nagging and all that doesn't work. I know........a month ago today, my husband almost died.......his aorta exploded and he was rushed to the hospital.....in the Operating Room for over 4 hours.....extremely frightening, considering 90% of people who suffer this, die.
And yes, my hubby has smoked for over 50 years......yes, 50 years........I truly thought this would scare the living daylights out of him, being so close to death......he had stopped "cold turkey" for about three weeks.....lo and behold, I went back into the bedroom one night, and there he was in bed and smoking.....I was so shocked, I ran out of the room, in tears.....I wanted to strangle the man........I was sooooo mad.....I just figured that our almost 33 years of marriage no longer meant anything to him.....that he no longer loved, or cared, for/about me......that all he cared about were his d... cigarettes......you cannot imagine how FURIOUS I was.
I have just learned, finally, to accept it......it's something I cannot change....I just have to ignore it and move on.......I cannot make him quit........he has GOT to be the one to do it.....the choice is his, not mine.

Oh Nora I am so sorry to hear that your hubby went back to smoking. My Daddy did not even last 3 weeks. He started back sneaking smokes only a week out of the hospital. My Mama works full time so she cannot stand guard over him and he pretty much does what he wants and eats what he wants. Of course none of his eating habits have changed much either except for when she is home. Men can be so darn stubborn. Take care.

Well, I've given up on hubby ever really quitting smoking.....I refuse to nag so pretty much don't say anything anymore.....he knows how our son and I feel about it. Yep, that's for sure....men can be SOOOOO stubborn. Plus, those cigarettes are so darn addictive, it's frightening.
