When you think of a religious activist in politics, what image first comes to mind? Most likely, it's a right wing Bible thumper campaigning for laws that cram a narrow view of religion down everybody's throats, using the power of government to do it. These activists have been clamoring against Barack Obama, accusing him of secretly being a Muslim and other silly things.
Certainly, such people are the loudest religious activists, but they aren't the only ones. Many liberals are religious too, though not all liberals are, and that's okay too. Being liberal is about accepting the right of other people to have differing points of view without getting all kinked up about it.
So, religious liberals aren't usually out making ridiculous displays with controversial, headline grabbing stunts. That's just because religious liberals do their activism gently, with respect and intelligent persistence.
Remember that, for the 2012 presidential election. You're going to hear a lot of right wing religious activists talk about voting Republican for God, as if God was a registered voter, or even on the ballot. More subtle thinkers will be wearing the political button you see here: Religious Liberals for Barack Obama 2012.
