It holds my heart, my hopes, this little ring.

It holds my joys, my tears, my fears.

It is an heirloom, this little ring. How auspicious now to have a ring so very like the famous Kate's, and bought not long after Diana herself wore the ring.

The Hope Diamond remains the model for this ring and for the Diana/Kate ring, AKA The Princess Diana ring.

The Hope's curse is that it brings bad luck to those who own it. Or even touch it. Probably best it is in the Smithsonian, out of harm's way, guarded by glass and guns.

Let's hope the Kate wears long this proud ring, and that no curses befall her, as they did her groom's Mother.

This little ring, a fiery blue sapphire, and a ring of  *sparkly* white diamonds on gold band, holds my heart, my hopes. It encircles everything I hold dear.

A small token, thesetiny bright lights, that brighten even the darkest blue center.

Yes, that is what the ring means to me.

I just watched a video of the Kate/Diana ring history and how much of a scandal it was in the beginning. My stepmother bought this one, not sure when but sometime after Diana wore it. 80s I think. So now it is in my possession. The style is back. The Princess Diana ring.

My mother always wore the same ring - though am not sure what happened to it after she passed..as I remember it was her pride and joy. Its a good looking ring as well :-)

As I recall she always had it even when I was a young boy so it was long before Diana - My initial thoughts is that a younger sibling might have inherited it though am not sure - I moved away many years ago and lost contact :-)

Your mother was a trendsetter~ it is now the most famous 'setting'... and the traditional American kind of engagement ring - the diamond solitaire. Imitation gem rings in this are avalable in the US and UK for not much; sterling silver and CZ in blue and diamond - Prince Charles is selling them from his charity for 47 Pound Sterling. And a US company is making them, too.

I loved this ring before I even knew it was based on Diana's ring. I had it last summer when my sister gave it to me and when I saw Kate's ring and that it had been Diana's - wow, what a glorious tradition to partake in. Even if your mum had it long before Diana, it is still a great setting.

Well written. A ring can hold such sentiment. I used to remove my wedding ring several times a day to scrub for surgery. It has not been off my finger for years now, and though the brushed pattern has worn smooth over these nearly 49 years, it's at least as beautiful and meaningful as ever.

That is a good thing to tie it to your scrubs. I never take it off. But surgery is different.

My Florentine pattern on my wedding band has long worn off, too.

Gorgeous ring. Strange, I've never had a diamond nor any other gem stone. My wedding ring was whale ivory....and when that cracked, it was replaced with a jade ring.

Very nice ring, Kathryn.
My wedding set got so thin after 40 years that I went to a plain gold band.
My set is in my jewelry box, and I look at it now and then.
We have now had our 50th anniversary and I am still wearing my plain gold band.
I hope the ring is better for Kate than it was for Dianna.........

A lovely ring with interesting stories. I have been told that gemstones give energetic protection, especially diamonds. It would be fun to read more about the use of gemstones for healing, etc.

Everlasting (diamond) protection against evil thoughts (sapphire) is signified by this ring.

The sapphire stone also denotes beauty, prosperity, and intuition.

The sapphire is also one of the foundation stones of a New Jerusalem....

I do, too - I worry about her!~ (because of the Queen, and the history of Diana and Fergie. And, Kate's brother had a video of him drunk that surfaced a few months ago = it was an old video, but the Queen was very upset. Sheesh. Such expectations. I think Kate's family must destroy all such evidence. It is the only way. I would never attempt to live in such a family.

Kate's has a 5 carat sapphire, I believe and might be 16 carats total. Not sure what mine is, but hers is worth so many thousands and thousands of dollars more.

It is a lovely ring;I feel so fortunate to have one that has such a special history.... it was given to me this summer, even though my stpemother bought it shortly after diana got married; the fact that it is now again in the spotlight with kate is quite remarkable....

I hope so, too. At least William really loves her. Charles was such a snake and also it was pretty much arranged. Now the family is allowed to pick their own. There is a BBC video of Diana saying 'I love him so much' before the wedding and Charles saying, "Yeah, well - what is love anyway?' before the wedding.
