My Grandson is Very Nervous. His Mom and I Are Downright SCARED!!!!

My 8 year old grandson, Dominic, is having surgery on Tuesday. He is very nervous. Sarah, my daughter, and I are downright scared.

A month or so ago, he was getting a routine physical, and his primary doctor found an oblong lump just over his left clavicle. He was reffered to an ENT for further investigation. He had an ultrasound and CT scan which were both inconclusive. He then had an MRI last week.

The results are not good. This "lump" is soft tissue and the lymph nodes are involved. Luckily, it does not appear that other lymph nodes throughout the body are involved. However the first thing that came to my mind was LYMPHOMA!

The ENT is taking him to surgery on Tuesday, going to do an open bipsy and then we have to wait.

My stomach is wrenching constantly. I can not get cancer out of my head.

Sarah and I have even discussed the possibility, if it is cancer, trying to get a referral to St. Judes in Tennessee.

Please remember little Dominic on Tuesday morning. My Gather friends have pulled us through difficult times before with their thoughts and prayers. Please help us again!!!!

I don't know if this will help, but my wife is a 15 year survivor of lymphoma. They can do much better now than they could do even them. Don't give up hope. The attitude helps.

Nancy, I will pray. I will also give this encouraging word. At twenty two years old I had a lump suddenly swell up on my neck. Hubby was in the Navy, they ran many tests. In the end, they did surgery and removed it. It turned out to be a lymph node that had gotten infected. The Doctor had thought several things, thyroglossal duct cyst, Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He had had me take antibiotics, etc. It just did not follow any rules. My health has been so great since that was removed and the recovery was great, I hope that Dominic has a similar result.

Oh Nancy, Nancy, I'm sure that you and your daughter are absolutely terrified and that all sorts of things are going through your minds right now........I know the feeling all too well, after the "nightmare" we went through at our house only two weeks ago, with almost having lost hubby.
I wish I could give you a huge hug...........I will keep you all in my prayers.....give it all to God.....pray, pray, pray....He WILL hear, He WILL listen..........we were given a very blessed miracle.......the surgeon who operated on hubby said that 90% of the cases died........there ARE miracles.

You know my thoughts and prayers are with you all. I ask that you lean on your faith and try not to get too upset until you know the results. That little boy needs to feel your calm and confidence right now and so many of these things turn out to be benign. We've had a couple scares in my family and it isn't easy to wait but things turned out okay. Putting you on the prayer list Nancy. God bless.

I will keep you in my prayers and put little Dominic AND you and mom on the prayer chain at our church. yes, as George said, attitude and the fact that your doctor was quick in finding it is on your side, as well as the fact Dominic is young and strong. Bless you and I pray the Lord will take your fear and give you strength.

Prayers For Dominic, and for all to be alright. There is always hope. As I say don't worry till there is truly something to worry about. Be supportive and have a postive attitude in his presence. That will help him deal with this better. I know it won't help your frayed nerves or his mother's. But try to be as postive as you can. Thats energy better spent. Keep us posted. Again I pray for the best for all of you!

I've always thought that people who work in the medical field and know first hand all the worst case scenarios have the toughest time waiting for results. I'm so sorry this has happened but I'm sure that all of us will be rooting for the best possible outcome for your grandson.

Another success story....my former sister-in-law was diagnosed with lymphoma in her late 30s; she's now in her mid-50s...and still going great guns.

People in the medical field have the hardest time of it because they 'know too much' and it's hard to wait for results since they have such intimate knowledge of all the worst case scenarios and possible outcomes....try to focus on a positive outcome for Dominic, that is always a possibility.
