So very true. I am lucky. I have a good retirement income, I have health, dental, and vision coverage, I own my home, I have no debts, and my wife and I are in relatively good health, but I grew up during the "Great Depression." I understand what is coming next.

Thanks for posting this. I don't get it. Being from the South though, I understand how not having effective unions hurts not just some workers but all workers. Were it not for the unions, everyone would not do as well as they have. I just can not believe this is happening. It is a nightmare to me, and I do believe it isn't going to stop here.

lynn, you understand all too well. Yes, the wages of everybody improved as unions got better pay for their members. When the unions finally got the 40 hour week for their members, then slowly every one got the 40 hour week. When the unions got the requirement of overtime for more than 40 hours, then everyone got overtime for more than 40 hours.
I am hopeful that Wisconsin and other States will stop this movement, but if they do not, then public education, minimum wage, overtime, and other things will go.

Big money rules. They are just more blatant about it now. If you don't like it you can blame folks (which will do no good at all) or you can understand (which takes effort) and do something about it (which takes more effort). Your choice.

Too many people would prefer to spend the time watching "The Charlie Sheen Show."

Or the FOX shows ... worse yet, all of them.

Does anyone from the left understand what being broke means? The US government doesnt seem to understand and this is part of the reason we now belong to China.... What is it about change that you dont understand? When Obama campaigned for change it was a good thing, now because some of the power has been taken from the Unions and these employees have to dish out a little money, its a bad thing...
HOw many people are out of work now? When they got their lay off slips to go stand in the unemloyment lines, did they carry on like these immature people did? No... they sucked it up and did what they had to do.. You all seem to want to whine about the Republicans trying to turn a failing system around and create a state that is not operating in the red and you would think that he committed a crime.. At least these people still have jobs,,, even Obama said that we were going to have to live within our means( not exact words, but something like this)...
What is there not to understand? Just because the government doesnt know how to balance the budget , doesnt mean someone else cant... We have to live with the changes... THere are no longer manufacturing jobs as there once was...You cant go out and get a loan as easy as you once did, jobs are not plentiful as they once were. We have to learn to live within our means.. For most Americans, its a struggle just to have a roof over their heads, its a struggle just to buy food, its a struggle just to buy meds, its a struggle just to survive...and all you want to do is think of yourselves...
What made you think that at some point and time that this wasnt going to happen to our economy... We were once a great nation and now, we are in debt , big time debt.... We need to turn this country around and giving out handouts doesnt fix the problem... It might water it down but sooner or later, we or our children are going to have to start paing back... I guess now is the time...
I think Scott Waters should run for president... At least he didnt lie to the people... He was voted in to fix the problem and he seems to be trying... Now, if you could get those coward Dems to do something in DC... we might get out of this mess... Running away from the problem is never the solution. I hope these Dems learned a lesson from this, you cant tuck your head in the sand when confronted with a problem.. It might work for an Ostrich but not for real people.. I did say real people, not fake and phony people... Real people own up to their responsiblity , not hide out in some hotel room... I dont know how they look themselves in the mirrow... They delayed this process by not being there to vote, they put these protesters out there longer than needed to be and they should be held accountable for what they did ...and all of them should be charged for the damages that they did to the Capial building... They all acted as if they were students protesting the Vietnam War... You would think that they might want to set an example for the kids( which must not of meant to much to them, by them not teaching). If it were me, I would of fired them all...

Don't you find it interesting that Clinton left the U.S. with a surplus, and Bush left it with a deficit. How did the U.S. go broke in the 8 years of the Bush administration? The answer is simple, unnecessary wars and tax cuts for the wealthy and the large corporations.
