My Grocery Shopping Trip on Sunday

I had planned to go grocery shopping on Sunday and it ended up going pretty good. I did have some ups and downs with the budget though. The main sale I hit was at Save-A-Lot. A new one just opened up near us and they had some great deals going. A 20lb bag of potatoes was only $2.49 so I got 2 of those. Banana's were only 29 cents a pound and I got two bundles of those. Hamburger was $1.99 a pound. I got 18 pounds of it. Chicken breast was only $1.49 a pound and I only got 1 package of them. I was very disappointed with that. They had already run out. Of course I stocked up on all of my canned goods while there. I got quite a bit for $176. After stocking up there I went into Walmart for a few quick items. I got some cilantro, lettuce, cucumbers and salad makings at Walmart along with frozen tater tots and a few other things. I was very disappointed because I ended up spending over my budget and I was not real impressed with what I got for my money there. I think Walmart's prices are slipping quite a bit. I also got soaking wet with this shopping trip. It was worth it to stock up though.

Glad you were able to stock up. I think prices are going up here a little bit as well. I keep a list of everything I buy with the prices(a little OCD but it helps with knowing which store is actually having a sale and which are just putting their regular price in the ad) and I've noticed the prices going up on quite a few items.

As far as groceries, I always spend more and get less at walmart, so I don't shop there for that--or much of anything else. Can still get coffee and bread there cheaper than other places. Good idea to keep stocking up, as I don't see prices coming down for along time if at all. I think that was a pretty good deal on the potatoes, and bananas.

Prices have gone up everywhere because gas prices have gone up! Wonder if the food prices will come down if gas prices come down? LOL

One of my least favorite things to do is go food shopping. I usually make my daughter go but she won't use coupons or hunt for bargains. We spend more on food than we really have to.

I had heard that Walmart may be rolling their prices back more soon. But, in all honesty, I've never been overly impressed. Yes, their regular prices may be lower than other store's regular prices. But, their sales are not that great.

I really had hoped for a couple hundred $$ to do a major stock up on food for our new house. I had to be happy with the $80 we spent at Aldi. We, of course, had food that we brought with us, but I wanted a bit more as I work to earn online in hopes of being the one to buy the majority of the groceries from here on out. I'm glad about websites out there where I've gotten free food since we moved....that is always a wonder help!!
