New! Lean Pockets Pretzel Bread Sandwiches

Sassy likes soft pretzels, these Lean Pockets were on sale and "new!" so I purchased a box.  I cannot remember ever eating any of the "Pockets" products, whether lean or not, that I liked.  And this one was no exception.

A 9 ounce box contains two sandwiches regularly priced $2.69, on sale for $2.00.  One sandwich has 280 calories, 80 fat calories, 9g fat, 50mg cholesterol, 930mg sodium, 35g carbs, 1g fiber, 4g sugar, 14g protein.

Available in two varieties:

1. Roasted Turkey with Bacon & Reduced Fat Cheese
2. Grilled Chicken Jalapeno Cheddar
   

I guess they are called "Lean" because compared to regular Hot Pockets, they are lower in fat due to the use of reduced fat cheese and lean poultry.  These certainly are not diet food because I can think of many other things to eat for lunch that have less calories and fat than a Lean Pocket.  And look at that sodium number, 39% of the daily recommended limit.  Not good.

As for taste, I liked the pretzel bread.  The filling fell far short of the photo on the box.  There was hardly any turkey or tomatoes. I did taste bacon, but did not see any bacon bits.  The "reduced fat mozzarella cheese & cheddar cheese sauce" was simply gross.

In my opinion, it is fast convenient foods like this which are overloaded with sodium and ... you would not believe the ingredient list on this box, it is half a mile long ... other unhealthy ingredients that are ruining the health of far too many people.  Cooking is not difficult, it can be easy and quick.  People need to learn to prepare their own healthy foods.   Instead of eating one of these, make yourself a wrap with a tortilla, turkey or chicken, fresh lettuce and tomato, and some real cheese.

On a scale of one to ten, Sassy awards Lean Pockets Pretzel Bread Sandwiches a 2.  I give them credit for coming up with the new pretzel bread idea, but even if they gave these things away for free, I would not waste one more meal of my life on them.
