Reverend Grant Storms, the gay bashing preacher from New Orleans, has been arrested for public masturbation near a playground in a public park. While police file reports saying the preacher confessed, Storms later claimed it was not true but asked for forgiveness from other preachers.
Storms, 54, was arrested by police at Lafreniere Park in the New Orleans suburb of Metairie after he confessed to masturbating in his vehicle while parked near children playing in a playground. A female witness told police the man was playing with himself in the driver's seat while watching the children according the arrest report. He was released from jail "due to jail over-crowding," according the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
Grant Storms became locally famous for protesting Southern Decadence, a three-day gay festival held in the French Quarter during Labor Day. The over-zealous preacher and his followers took to the streets during the festival with signs and bullhorn speakers and claims the event turned the French Quarter into Sodom and Gomorrah, hardly a novel concept.
The preacher, who works doing lawn care for customers in the area near the park, later denied the allegations saying, "In the lawn care business, you carry a pee bottle and I did urinate in the pee bottle and my pants were open and I put my hands in my pants." However, in the same conversation, Storms said he asked for forgiveness from his wife and four children, admitting that he has a problem with sexually explicit material. He went on to say, "I let a lot of people down, and you know, I just pray that they can find it within their heart to forgive me."
Evidentially, the whole incident has humbled the man who once claimed to be a "Christian patriot." Grant Storms said, "When I look back, there's a lot of things I would have done differently. I was so proudful. I was very arrogant. I was very mean-spirited at times and I apologize," he said, adding later, "I'll fess up to my shortcomings, and whatever they say against me, they can say it. They have every right now to say it."
This incident seems to reinforce many people's preconceived ideas about staunch conservative Christian preachers who rail against the sex lives of others. There often appears to be a link between one's own dysfunctional character and what they choose to attack. Extreme fundamentalism seems to always involved hate and maybe it is misdirected self-loathing. No matter the case, Grant Storms has been exposed as a hypocrite and a guy with some real problems that should be far more important to him than what others do.
