Oscars 2011 Winners & Academy Awards Results (Live Blog)

Welcome to live blog results for the 83rd annual Academy Awards. Tonight's show will present awards to the best work in film over the past year including major awards for Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Actress. The Oscars 2011 winners may be predictable based on previous award wins, or there may be some major surprises at tonight's awards show!

Among the Oscar nominees for the Best Picture award in 2011 are 10 films.  These include "The Social Network," "The King's Speech," "True Grit," "127 Hours," "Winter's Bone," "Toy Story 3," "Black Swan," "The Fighter," "The Kids Are All Right," and "Inception."  Early Oscars predictions have favored two films in this category, with many choosing "The King's Speech," while others opt for "The Social Network."  Unfortunately, there can be no tie in any of the categories.

When it comes to Best Actor, Colin Firth (pictured) will be the lead candidate to win for his role as King George VI in "The King's Speech."  It will be a major surprise should he lose to any of his competitors in this category.  Included in those competitors are Javier Bardem ("Biutiful"), Jeff Bridges ("True Grit"), Jesse Eisenberg ("The Social Network"), and James Franco ("127 Hours").  Franco just happens to be hosting this shindig too.

The Best Actress category features Natalie Portman with her amazing performance in "Black Swan." vying for the award against several other great leading ladies.  These nominees include Annette Bening ("The Kids Are All Right"), Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lawrence ("Winter's Bone"), and Michelle Williams ("Blue Valentine").

Of course these are just three of the many awards which will be handed out tonight.  There's plenty more winners beyond these three and all will be quite deserving of the gold statuette known as "Oscar."

I found it so sad....my son grew up with those films. He was the same age as Andy all the way up....and he went off to school this fall too. He and I saw the movie together, just like we saw the other 2.

Seemed like they shortened it this year and there wasn't as much crowd noise during various actors...what did you think of the segment?

I still would like to see this one....but I'm just not sure about taking my 14 yr old daughter. She's the dancer though.

The movie is chock full of lesbian scenes. Nothing I would take a 14 year old aspiring dancer to, or even want to see myself.

That was a gimme from last year. He did an awesome job in that movie but Jeff Bridges deserved that for True Grit. When you watch that movie, you don't see anybody but Rooster Cogburn in that role. He outdid John Wayne by light years.

Easily the best movie you'll see from 2010 from the acting to the writing to the cinematogarphy and direction. And it's hilarious. Matt Damon was even really good in it but he was so overshadowed by Hailee Steinfeld and especially Jeff Bridges. If you even remotely appreciate the Coen Brothers, you'll love it.

What I don't like about it is that too often it's become sort of a self-congratulatory orgy. What I do like is when the more independent voices get recognized, and also newcomers like Hallie Steinfeld. Let's hope we get more of the fresh faces and ideas, and less of the stale old familiar. Let's hope they don't totally screw true Grit for Best Picture... although I wouldn't be too upset if The Fighter or The King's Speech won. Those were the only 3 worthy of it this year. True Grit deserves it more though.

I heard The King's Speech is really boring....the only one of the nominated 10 I've seen is Toy Story 3. An animated movie will NEVER win best picture.

THe closest it will ever come is Beauty and the Beast being beaten out by Silence of the Lambs in 1991.

It's actually not... I was expecting it to be a snoozefest and was more than pleasantly surprised by it. In fact, the climax of him giving a speech (already the premise sounds extremely boring) turned out to be an edge of your seat moment. Not literally, but they did an amazing job of getting you emotionally invested in the characters, especially King George VI that you can't help but root for them. For that, it deserved best original screenplay. It's worth the watch also, but still doesn't hold a candle to True Grit... I'm starting to sound like a spokesman for the movie, lol.

I enjoyed King's Speech also, surprisingly it was entertaining, dramatic and gripping, not as boring as people might expect!

The Social Network was good but it had some major flaws... the most glaringly obvious one to me was that there was ONE character, Mark Zuckerberg. Every character in that movie shared the same exact personality qualities as Mark Zuckerberg and by the end, it got boring. It just wasn't a best picture quality film to me.

BEST PICTURE BY FAR!!!! If you havn't seen it go see it you won't be disapointed! It's the only movie I have ever seen three times at the show. I spent over 35$ to see it that many times lol. And I felt Colin Firth deserved Best Actor by far! It had ntohing to do with last year, he won that oscar fair if you see the king's speech you'll see why!

Melissa Leo obviously didn't deserve best actress in a supporting role. All she had to do was "act natuarally". Toilet mouth wins out over a genuiine nominee and great performance. Hailee Steinfeld...you warmed my heart showing true grit in the face of another Hollywood farce and are in my eyes , the true winner. What a sham.
