This week Angela is off school for a mid-winter break, and Mike is out of town for business. Since we have next to no money, Angela and I thought we'd do some free and inexpensive things. We were able to go to the taping of the Fox TV show So You Think You Can Dance, and Angela will probably be on camera even. We had a lot of fun.
Well, Angela wanted her hair dyed....and I pick my battles (no tatoos and no body piercings). She had to get it cleared with dance first, and she couldn't do weird colors or anything (like purple). I didn't think it would be a big deal, so we bought a box of Revlon 49 hair dye. I read ALL the directions and was VERY careful. Um, well, her hair didn't turn out right at all....oh my goodness it looked odd.....and very splotchy and multicolored.
I called the hair dresser first thing yesterday morning and left a message on her machine. I finally got ahold of her about 1 pm.....and she got Angela right in. She assured me that I couldn't have screwed it up too bad, since it wasn't green or falling out. When Cher saw Angela's hair, she couldn't believe it.....it was much worse than she thought it would be. Uh-Oh. No, I didn't dare take a photo of what Angela's hair looked like BEFORE the hair dresser.
So what did I do wrong? Angela's hair is just too thick and there is too much of it. One box of hair dye was too little. Cher said I needed 4 boxes. Now, how in the world would I have known that??? I just read the package and the directions. At least I didn't try to redye Angela's hair myself.
It took about 2 1/2 hours and 4 tubes of hair dye to 'fix' Angela's hair. Yup, I would have needed 4 boxes to actually color her hair right. Oops. Mike hasn't seen her hair, of coarse.....and boy, I can't wait. He's going to have a tizzy. IT's um....unique now. LOL. She doesn't look like my Angela though....(sniff, sniff)....and it is my fault. Thank goodness neither of us are high strung or panic easily....LOL.

Okay, I can't take credit for how she dresses though.....

The hairdresser was amazed that neither Angela nor I was really freaking out about the hair mess. Both of us are pretty relaxed and know that hair will grow back if it had to be cut.
I don't think it looks too bad. She is a little worried about going back to school with it this color though.
I don't know if you guys have them there but L'Oreal has a great temporary hair line called Color Pulse.....it's a mousse that works the same as regular hair dye but it generally only lasts about 8 weeks or so, depending on how often you wash and what kind of shampoo you use...I find it's a great way to change hair colour without having to go permanent and it's fairly inexpensive too...might be something to look into next time she wants to change her hair colour...
And now you know why hairdressers charge WAY more for anything to do with LOOOONG hair.
Red tones are the most difficult in coloring, with blondes next to that. Dark brown is usually easy and black should never be attempted by anyone not born with black hair. I had dark brown and used dark brown for years; i had red tones in my hair, naturally, courtesy of a lot of Scot Irish relatives, so my dark brown hair would turn reddish. I am now blonde, and use a light blonde, but there is a trick to that, too..
My MIL is a stylist, and I've been doing my own hair since I was 16. I can get away with 1 bottle until my hair reaches my shoulders completely. From there on, add a bottle for every 3-4 inches of hair. It takes a lot, because you need to make sure the hair is completely saturated.
I like jet black hair though, so I have never dyed mine and probably only ever will when it starts to go full on gray.
If the girls's hair is as long and thick as Angela's, then get 4 boxes of dye apeice....or have it done professionally.
I do have to use two boxes of color on my hair though because it is so thick. It is above shoulder length
Now I appreciate my thick hair.
Use a shampoo for color treated hair to prevent fading in splotches.
I think her hair looks nice.
I am so sorry but don't be mad at me. . . I am sitting here laughing at your story. . not what happened but how you told it. . it is so funny.
I am glad it worked out in the end. I have to use 2 boxes of hair color on my hair and it is above my shoulders.
I have found from experience that Loreal works better on my hair.
Angela has her own style and that is a good thing. Haley is the same way. Victoria told me to pick the ugliest clothes I could at Goodwill and Haley would love it. LOL
I sent you a box today from the post office....it's full of books. It should get there by Monday.
Funny I was just thinking of you. I have a brilliant idea... Yep Me with a brilliant idea... can you imagine that?
A man was denied bond because he was bathing a baby in the sink. He left and came back to find the baby on the floor. The baby died a while later.
Who does such a thing. C-R-A-Z-Y
I wish you lived closer. I could use a friend right about now.

Congratulations!
I hope you will take the time to view all the other spotlights in the post.
Have a wonderful day.
Angela looks fine in her new hair color though not as good as in her natural color. I can relate. My youngest decided to tint her beautiful blonde hair just before a play, and it turned out hideous! No time to go to a professional. I went to town and bought an expensive product which I thought would bring her hair back toward a more natural color and fortunately it worked. It was another "dad to the rescue" moment.
Congrats on your spotlight!
I am going to bed now but wanted to let you know this info:
