Philadelphia Cooking Creme ~ Free Cookbook ~ Sassy Shopping Alert

Sassy noticed a cardboard display in the dairy aisle offering free cookbooks.  Not just little pamphlets, but real 8x10 quality softcover cookbooks, 164 pages with 70 Philadelphia recipes.  A full-page photo accompanies every recipe.

Information on the display claimed the cookbook is a $19.99 value.  I'd say closer to half that.  But it was FREE with the purchase of four of any Philadelphia products 5 ounces or larger.

Then Sassy noticed the new Philadelphia Cooking Cremes, regularly priced at $2.99 for 10 ounces, on sale for $2.49.  Four varieties: Original, Santa Fe Blend, Italian Cheese & Herb, and Savory Garlic.  Sassy could not resist, she picked up one of each along with a free cookbook.

I dunno how to describe the cooking cremes.  They are the consistency of sour cream, but they don't get watery like sour cream and the cremes have a tang that sour cream does not have.  The cremes do not taste exactly like soft cream cheese either. The Santa Fe Blend has a nice kick to it.  There are plenty of herbs in the Italian Cheese and Herb.  110 calories per 1/4 cup serving, 70 or 80 fat calories.  The first photo is of the Original, the second photo is Santa Fe Blend.

The foil seal under the lids read: "Enjoy in a recipe or to use as a sauce, simply heat it up and spoon it on chicken, pork or fish, pasta or rice, cooked veggies, baked or mashed potatoes, mixed into scrambled eggs"

There's a recipe on the back of each tub: Chicken Bruschetta Pasta, Easy Chicken Enchiladas, Creamy Chicken Florentine or Chicken Primavera Pasta.

I'm going to enjoy using these cooking cremes and the new cookbook!  I might even do a review.  :o/

So very interesting. We went across the border to buy your cheap gas and get some groceries that are cheaper than here - eggs, milk, cottage cheese, butter and I never looked past what was on my list = Damn!

Your gas was $3.35 today and ours is $4.45. Dairy products are protected by our government and the price is always higher than yours. We usually don't complain because the higher prices here (usually tax) help make our health care free.

Wow, that's a huge difference in gas prices. Yeah, I believe our government is subsidizing the dairy industry here, which keeps the prices artificially low.

Yeah, it was free in the store. There was a cardboard stand full of cookbooks right next to the Philadelphia products. I took a cookbook and 4 Cooking Cremes. I showed the cookbook to the cashier when I checked out, and she knew all about the free cookbook offer.

Well Sassy I couldn't help myself, today at the store they had the cooking cream, I got the Santa Fe Blend, regular price 3.15 on sale for 2.39 and someone had dropped a coupon right on top of them for a dollar off, got it for 1.39 and went home and made enchiladas, amazing. Did a post about it.

My son works in a market and I just asked him if they have these cookbooks. He laughed at me... said they were all gone in less than two hours. People sucked them up fast, LOL.

Wow, I guess my timing was good and I won't be finding any more cookbooks when I go shopping next week. Unless they had more in the back, there were only about 20 books on the display. Thanks John!

He also said his store had the free cookbook display back sometime in early January. Different stores/chains are probably getting them at different times, or parts of the country, or... ? He didn't know if any more would be coming later, probably not, just that all theirs were gone quick.
