Right now I am not reading anything to discuss here. I just got the latest Julia Della Croce cookbook at Costco yesterday - Italian Home Cooking. I am also in the middle of reading the latest Molly O'Neill book - One Big Table. It is just huge. Will take a long time to finish reading.

The Last Chinese Chef is a very good read. I learned a lot about Chinese food while reading that one

Oh yes, so did I - also, thought of a few more - Like Water for Chocolate - Laura Esquival - omg one of best books ever read - also, Chocolat - Joanne Harris who is one of my favorite authors - who also wrote Five Quarters of an Orange - Also, Judith Hendricks, the Bakers Apprentice - excellent - she is another favorite - I never realized I had read so many food related books!!!

I did learn about Chinese food and have more respect for it now - food is an art - filled with texture and colors - as you know and which I am slowly learning! Thanks Sonia. Salud

Oh yes....I have read all of the ones you mention above - I was writing notes to myself when reading the Bakers Apprentice....Loved Judith Hendricks...need to look for more from her.

One of the major things I learned by reading The Last Chinese Chef is that "real" Chinese food is a form of art for all the senses

Yes indeed for emotions as well - I loved how the wonderful Chinese chef made food for the widow's emotions - how could one not fall in love with someone so sensitive - I'm totally Eastern in my way of thinking eating medicating (ie not), etc so yes, I was into this thoroughly - now, am wracking my brain about another book - I can see it - it's red at the library - a short novella - seems like it's about Christmas - let me keep thinking - have to go on my book in a few, maybe that will help...fixing stir fry today - I actually went and bought some Marmite - have you tried it (yeast ) to marinate the tofu in...along with mango chutney and soy sauces. Oh I've written to Judith - she's very open, social - she lives in Santa Fe - she wrote back (email) and I owe her a letter now. I think she has several books out - at least three others. Salud

Have tried Marmite but don't care for it. - The mango chutney and soy sauces sound good though...;-)

You should write her - yall would get along well - I haven't tried Marmite - I remember Bob and Magi always talking about Vegemite - is it the same thing? I found this yesterday and wanted to try it with tofu - I best taste it first as it might gross me out - Trader Joe's has great sauces and chutneys so I combine things together and marinate for a while then do the onions, garlics, leeks, then the spinach, also after all that and baby corn and mushrooms, other veggies like snow peas, I throw in rice noodles and of course the tofu in tiny cubes...ok honey - cocodrilo - (laughing)! Salud

I was thinking of Patricia Cornwall - but not the Food to Die for - it was a Scarpetta tale though that did have lots about food - will keep looking for the title - bad memory these days. bbl. Abrazos - Salud

Yes, Patricia C. does mention food throughout her books...and she has a cookbook also - I have a copy of it...

I haven't heard of a Christmas one by her though...

have you read Comfort Food? It's by same author who wrote another book about quilting I think...saw it at the library - Kay something. Ok later gator - am cutting up tofu.

BTW, I picked up The Baker's Aprentice today....I was mistaken. The book I had read of Judith's was Bread Alone and not the above....
