The Google Doodle today is sending out some Google love to everyone. Google wants to make sure they tell everyone "Happy Valentine's Day," and what better way to pull this off than to make a special Happy Valentine's Day Google Doodle? The doodle is in red lettering set on a blue-and-green backdrop with  a red heart replacing one of the "O's" in Google.
According to an article on WWWery, Valentine's Day originates from a legend of three martyrs: Valentine of Rome, Valentine of Terni and one simply called Valentine. Although all three are well know, one stands alone for Valentine's Day for bringing lovers together.
According to the legend, the Valentine of Rome was a priest during the time when Roman Emperor Claudius II forbade young men to marry. Claudius made the decision, based on the belief that single men were better soldiers than married men.
Valentine of Rome secretly performed marriages for the young lovers, because he did not agree with the ban put in place by the Emperor. Of course, Valentine was found out by Claudius, and his death was ordered. Such a tragic end to someone who brought people who loved one another together.
Even though Valentine's Day seems to have a somewhat tragic beginning, today it is a day where people celebrate love for the people they hold most dear. What do you have planned for Valentine's Day 2011?
