It was the battle against the large fast-food restaurant chains this week on "Harry's Law," with Tommy coaching plaintiff Yvonne on how to tug at the heartstrings during her testimony, while Adam helped Chunhua recover from a horrendous attack, and help her bring her assailant to justiceÂ…just in time to see justice go right out the window.
Tommy was gung-ho and ready to perform his typical three-ring circus for the hot-shot lawyers that would be coming to his office for a deposition, until those hot-shot lawyers served him a motion statement to have the case thrown out. Now, Tommy was forced to face his least-favorite judge and try to convince her to allow the motion to continue. With a little guidance and confidence-building from Lisa, heÂ’s able to not only make his case, but actually convince the judge that the fast-food companies should possibly be held accountable for the unhealthy weight of Americans, and the recklessness they cause by advertising to children with their fancy commercials and toys. The judge agrees to throw out the motion, and the unthinkable happened: the fast-food companies being charged agreed to a settlement, much to TommyÂ’s shock and awe.
Having heard everything that happened at the trial from Malcolm, Harry realizes she may have misjudged Tommy, and tells him so. She also tells Malcolm she may have overreacted to his helping Tommy with the case, but informed him that sheÂ’s just looking out for his best interests. She believes in him, and that he could one day be a great lawyer, and she didnÂ’t want influences from lawyers like Tommy to impede that.
While Tommy fought against what he felt was the injustice of the fast-food chains keeping America unhealthy and overweight, Adam fought the system when ChunhuaÂ’s attacker made a deal with the D.A. to avoid being charged for the attack and near-rape. Adam and Chunhua werenÂ’t the only ones appalled at this un-justice. Damian, who was already blaming himself for not being there to protect Chunhua like he was supposed to, decided to take matters into his own hands, and attacked her assailant to the point of hospitalizing him. As appalled as Adam was about this, he went to the A.D.A. who told them about ChunhuaÂ’s attackerÂ’s deal to point out that the D.A. didnÂ’t have enough evidence against Damian to keep him locked up, and that it would be better for her boss if he didnÂ’t lose his star witness to an assailant attack. And besides, didnÂ’t Chunhua deserve some justice? He pointed out that it was a win-win situation. The charges against Damian were dropped, and he was released.
Meanwhile, Chunhua, knowing her attacker was free to walk around, kept herself held up in her home, refusing to leave. After a visit from Jenna, who shared her story of being assaulted by an uncle when she was a child, Chunhua decided she couldnÂ’t let her attacker continue to victimize her by staying locked up at home forever, and decided to face the world once again.
It was definitely a win-win situation for all concerned on last nightÂ’s episode. Catch next weekÂ’s all-new episode of "Harry's Law" on Monday at 10/9c on NBC, when Harry defends a client she doesnÂ’t even believe is innocent, and risks her career when she announces it to the judge during the trial.
