I write.
That might sound like a ridiculous use of a pronoun and a verb to most people, but that is what I do. When I am not writing on a keyboard, I am writing on a piece of paper. When I am not writing on a piece of paper, I am writing in my head. I am always writing something. If I'm not writing, I am re-writing. I discovered a long time ago that I could probably re-edit everything forever. And I really do mean FORever. It is never good enough. NEVER. There is always a little more tweaking or tightening or twisting or rearranging or.....
Anyone who writes is nodding their head right now thinking to themself, uh-huh...I get it!
When I write I am lost in thought. I don't know what is going on around me. And when I am writing in my head - forget it. Don't bother talking to me, my eyes are glazed over and there is nobody home. I think I've probably always been this way but never knew it and now that I do, I feel like I have so much time to make up for.
If you've ever checked out my other site you will see right on top that is says: Fiction With a Purpose. Now that probably doesn't mean anything to most people. To me? It means a lot. I was always told that people have a purpose in life. It was so frustrating because I had no clue what that meant or what mine was. (Most of the time I still don't) BUT I do know that when someone picks up a Youngerman novel they are going on one heck of a ride. My goal is that when that novel is finished two things happen. First, the reader wonders if that was a true story, and second that story stays with you for a while. I want you to think about what was in the story and ask yourself, "Could that be me? Or my family? Or my friend?"
Now that is some purpose!

I like the way you defined the goal for your writing. I think that too many writers have a goal of just getting published.
If my only goal had been to become published I think I would still be waiting. At this point I think my publisher has just figured out that they can actually make money off of my writing - and that was never really my original intention - although it would be a nice booby prize!
