Genre Shorties Prompt -- Week 48

While walking near a stream, you fall into a secret chamber. In 100 or fewer words, tell me what you see there and possibly how you get out again.

Use one/more of the following: doubloon / pudding / buckshot / dingo / Indiana Jones

Your story may be serious or lighthearted or as silly as you like just so long as it is 100 or fewer words.

I hate Riverwalk Groceries.

Although they do have an eclectic inventory, like those Dingo brand buckshot pudding

doubloons - mine had an offer for Indiana Jones stickers. Still that doesn’t explain the

red soil I’m lying on, it might explain why I’m in this cave. Odd really, I don’t like

pudding, must have been something on the package. I doubt if I have to worry about

groceries or much else from now on. They have us solve puzzles all day. I’d like to

stretch my legs. Hope Gauss and Jana are okay.

Did I mention - I hate Riverwalk Groceries.

I don't know if or when I'll be doing any kind of shopping in the near future. Hard to do that when your imprisoned in a subterranean complex and a fixed to a bed of red soil. Still, never say never, unless of course its shopping at Riverwalk groceries.

Only, because they drugged me, shipped me to a hidden complex and to top it off they never honored the coupons they sent me for the Dingo brand product. Poor customer service blended with a very rude attitude. They should feel lucky I mentioned their name at all. Hmmpf.

The old Indiana Jones sticker ruse... I think the key to the mystery might lie in your dislike of pudding.

or my proclivity for tiny bits of sticky paper. Pudding is like so many things in life; nice and shiny on top, but once you par-take of it, it dissolves very quickly.

Halfway through reading this I saw your imagery and had to start reading this again. You are rather subtle in your descriptions and I would say moderately surreal. A enjoyable read. Thank you.

I'll take the compliment, but the "subtlety" comes from the minimal or point like inferences you have to do with these shorties to "paint a picture." I'm glad you where able to connect the dots. All comments are welcome, but most are generic - so I don't get a good reading if my ideas come through the way I think they do. Thank you for that William and the read.

Because I taught composition, I've a natural tendency to look into the most important aspect of writing and that's the author's voice. I try to imagine the reason for narrating or reporting of a story. Ilook at markers such as topic sentence(s), rhetorical patterns, etc. Writing stories is fun and there's lots of flexibility in syntax.
