Farrah Fawcett's famous red swimsuit is Smithsonian bound. The suit worn in her infamous poster and pose seen around the world, with her gorgeous Farrah-hair and sexy smile, will become a piece of treasured history.
According to a report from MSNBC, the swimsuit was instrumental in making the Charlie's Angels actress an icon. Her longtime companion Ryan O'Neal is donating the swimsuit as well as other items belonging to the late actress to Smithsonian's National Museum of American History. He will make the donations on Wednesday February 2.
A poster depicting Farrah Fawcett wearing the red swimsuit sold millions of copies back in 1976, and is considered a collector's item today. O'Neal will also donate a Farrah Fawcett doll from 1977 and some copies of her scripts from the first season of Charlie's Angels. The Smithsonian displays a popular culture history collection, and Fawcett's items will become a part of that display.
Probably the most important thing Farrah Fawcett ever did as an actress was to produce a documentary in which she starred, detailing the battle she fought and ultimately lost against anal cancer. Farrah's Story even earned the actress a posthumous Emmy Award nomination. The documentary allowed Farrah's fans and the general public to watch the process she endured battling her disease, as well as her contagious optimism that she would win.
Farrah Fawcett didn't win her battle against cancer. She died on June 25, 2009. Ryan O'Neal was by her side and devastated to lose her. He has come to grips in recent months with his loss, and now helps share her memory by donating some of the items associated with the famous actress for all to share.
