Thanks to all those who expressed concern over my son's heart problem. For those who don't know, my 19 year old son was diagnosed with a heart condition called Wolff Parkinson White disorder last Monday. Basically, it's a condition where the electrical signals in the heart go the wrong way and cause the heartrate to speed up immensely. The doctor has seen people with 200 bpm! I was astounded. Basically, the heart is working overtime to get the signals to go the right way again. So, while the heart is doing that, my son is in immense pain and has trouble breathing. He even passed out last time it happened. It is very scary! I'm so afraid that it might happen while he is driving. So, we're keeping him on a short leash, which he isn't too happy about.
He went to the cardiologist on Wednesday. The cardiologist gave him some medication to take that is supposed to help the condition, but she really recommends surgery. We have to go get a surgical consult next to see if it is something we want to consider.
Personally, I am for the surgery because it could cure the condition. My son, on the other hand, is very scared of the surgery and thinks he doesn't want to do it. My husband and I aren't sure how to proceed because it is his body. But, we also think it would be the best thing for him.
So, that is where we stand right now. I'm glad he has the medication now. I was so afraid he would have another painful attack. The medication may cause depression, so we really have to watch him. He's been taking it about 4 days now and he seems okay so far. My fingers are crossed!
Thanks for all the prayers and kind words. It is much appreciated!
