well, its time to get all that paperwork together and get your taxes done! woo! most people dont get excited about this, but i expect to get a decent return this year so i am pretty happy about it.
We bought a furnace about this time last year and it qualified for the tax rebate program that was going at the time. 1200 worth! so, that will be nice! also.
I will be going to the accountant on February 9th. I use the same accountant as my parents have for most of their lives. we all go and she gets it all done in one night. Since she is somewhat of a family friend as well its a pretty decent way to get your taxes done.
I am already planning out what my return will be used for. Most of it will go towards debt and or bills, and a small portion will be used for little things that are needed around the house. But i still need to make a list to be sure that nothing is forgotten! Maybe ill post that list later...maybe...
anyway, Being one of the 2 things that are guaranteed in life (death and taxes) how do you plan to do your taxes? yourself or have someone do them for you?

i put that in quotes because i own $62 in stocks... essentially...nothing...but hey...whatever.
NEXT year however, will be about $2,000 or $3,000 more because we add Anneke in as a dependent. :)
We go to H&R Block, as we itemize..........it even takes them about an hour to do ours, as we have so much "stuff." I still have to call and get receipts for our son's inheritance for college tuition....ughhhhhhh.......that's investment stuff, and we never did get the papers.
The 19th is when we get ours done......can't wait to see the great refund....will be using it to get a new car!!!!!!!

Saving pennies here and there is OK, but I urge you to think big when saving money. You can really cut big dollars with my ideas... Let me know if anything clicks for you.
If your tax return is fairly simple (3 or 4 forms), then I suggest you go look for VITA or AARP Tax-Aide centers in your neighborhood. I volunteer at one of these centers, and we do lots of tax filings for free. You can do e-file and get your money just as quickly by direct deposit. You don't have to be a member of AARP to get free service. You don't have to be a senior either. I do many tax filings for people in their 20s and 30s.
No Catch.
I buy TurboTax each year and help my relatives, friends, and church members file theirs. You can read my gather posts on tax savings also.
