They are about an hour away. I keep wanting to drive out to see their homestead. Our dream is to have our similar to theirs but ours is a bit smaller so maybe no goats.

I'm way out in California, and although my yard is pretty big, the county won't let me have a goat -- maybe two or three chickens, if the neighbors don't complain and the coyotes don't eat them

Where are you? I am in Long Beach. Here there are so many rules it is even an issue to have a few chickens

San Bernardino mountains -- that place is in Pasadena, but I was thinking of another place in Canada -- sorry about my confusion
-- Crestline is an unincorporated area, but the county still has too many rules
