What album do think was overlooked in 2010? The Musicheads want to know...

For this 1st episode of the new year, Bill is joined The Current's music department, Melanie Walker and David Safar, to discuss some of the new music they are excited about in 2011!

The cast also wants to know:  What album do you think was overlooked in 2010?

The Gaslight Anthem's American Slang was my favorite album of 2010, and it didn't seem to get much love... :(

The first album that comes to my mind is Astro Coast from Surfer Blood. This was the band's debut record and it sounds pretty darn good for young kids their first time out. The lyrics are engaging and the music is complex. They also write a pretty good hook to pull it all together. We only heard "Floating Vibes" on the Current and , I can't for the life of me figure out why people did not go crazy for it. It did not even show in the year end top 89 poll. We didn't even get to hear the single "Swim" on the Current. This is a song that has been singled out by critics as an amazing track all year long. Pitchfork gave the record an 8.2 if that helps sell anybody.

The River Empires - The River Empires (Epilogue). When the television series is on and becomes a cult-hit, plenty of people will look back and wished they'd known about this record when it 1st came out.

Freedy Johnston came back from an eight year layoff with last year's, "Rain in the City' album. It's a wonderful album that went largely unnoticed. It's full of nicely crafted songs, and sounds as good as anything he's done.

Paper Tiger's "Made Like Us" was, in my opinion, the best album from the America's best hip-hop community in 2010. Dessa and Lazerbeak had a great year, and the rest of the Doomtree/Rhymesayers team are making our city proud. But Paper Tiger absolutely astounded with an album that was at once melodiously melancholy and thrillingly intense. It may be because he's the quietest of the Doomtree crew, but "Made Like Us" was overlooked by most, and that's criminal.

Tough call because a lot of the shoegazy-type stuff I like is automatially overlooked! I would have to say Film School's "Fission". A departure from their first two albums but so catchy and fun to listen to. It is in heavy rotation in my car when I'm not listening to the Current.

Play It Strange by The Fresh & Onlys.

I liked the album before I saw them open for Clinic at the Entry. They blew Clinic outta the water!

Expo 86 by Wolf Parade. They were a total unknown for me. What a great find. I hope they continue.
