New Year Snow

Out two mountain volcanoes, Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea received some snow last evening...

Mauna Loa looked like the 'white mantle' came down pretty low this time, but it was so far away from my vantage point that the pictures didn't show up too well...but I did manage to get some shots of Mauna Kea from three different locations in Waimea.

Most people don't realize that it snows in Hawai'i! I remember learning that when we lived there and thought it was so cool! We are going to get snow here in SC on Monday! Had snow in my town on Christmas and getting it again! Am I going to have to move farther south? Thanks for sharing the pics. They are so pretty.

Debbie, the biggest snowfall I have ever been in was in SC - I believe it was in February of 73 - the whole state was paralized...people stranded on the Interstate, motels and hotels full (and no employees to come to work) ....it was pretty wild...!

If conditions are right, we could get snow up there at any time of year...including July....which I have seen before!

I had no idea it could snow in Hawaii - I guess that's just up on the mountain top though, right?

It's barely 60 here today - a cold winter in Florida with the evening temps getting near freezing, but not where I live.

We got another snowfall last night on our two volcano mountain tops!
Yet this morning its a bit warmer than yesterday morning....!

According to the news report there are 43 states under snow on the mainland....and now even Hawaii can join the list!

Marilyn, I've spent 17 winters here and still am in awe and get excited when I see snow on our mountains....

The photos are beautiful even without a telephoto lens. I remember it was freezing when we were on Haleakala years ago. I can see how the volcano tops could have snow. One day this winter I heard Florida was the only state that didn't have snow at that time. Just looked at your Christmas photos of the tablescapes. Very pretty. Love to see any photos of Hawaii.

I've been up there when it was freezing also and with the wind blowing the chill factor can be pretty fierce...

Thanks for going back and looking at the Christmas tablescapes... they are such fun....but they can't compare to the ones featured in the Between Naps on the Porch blog!!! I love that blog!
