I'm waiting for paperwork still. I probably can't file until after the 30th....Mike's company waits until the last minute to send the forms.

Have to wait for our W2 forms to even think about filing and that is always the end of January So it will be in February before we even think about filing

We'll most likely do ours in mid to late February. It usually takes a while for the Air Force to send out any extra forms, and since my husband was deployed this year, we'll probably have extra forms. This is the first deployment he's been on, so I'm not positive how all that works.

We always have ours done on base. I can do federal, but I don't know how to do state, since we usually get everything back since we don't actually live in the state that my husband claims residency in.

If the Air Force is like the Army it is all on one W2. There's a box for combat pay.

Wait let me say that different there's a box for all pay that is non taxable while deployed on the W2. not just his special combat pay. It can or can't be used as income towards the EIC. It would have hurt us last year to use my husbands pay while deployed towards it. Depending on your husband's pay it may or may not help to use it. If you have someone file it they should know that. Also I've gone on base once to have ours done, I took them home and re-did them to e-file them. Just make sure you look them over if you have someone on base do it as they are everyday soldiers who volunteer and are given courses to use basically the at home software you can use. We would have missed money because they guy who did ours said we didn't have to file a MI return which he's right we didn't but because we qualified for the federal EIC we also got a partial refund from MI for it.

Thanks, Nichole! He was actually only deployed to Guam, so no combat pay, and since it's part of the US, his pay was taxable. We just got the separation pay and some other allowance.

I usually figure ours at home first, and then have them file it if it's the same. I would just do them myself, since ours is usually pretty straightforward, except that I don't know how to do the state thing, since Missouri gives it ALL back as long as my husband spends less than 30 days there during the entire year.

I am so not ready lol. We hopefully will be able to file ours at the end of Jan since that is when the Army is releasing the W2's. We have to paper file since we are claiming the new home credit this year. Hubby was deployed last year. I use to do ours but they were straight no nothing besides our savings and standard stuff. I think I will let someone else do it this year :)

We go to H&R block every year. They do everything for us. And, then they e-file it. And, we get our money by check. Which we pick up when it's ready.

waiting for Hubby's W4 from work. We go to Jackson Hewitt and get direct deposit.
sometimes we get the RAL and get some of our Federal refund sooner.

I have been doing taxes since I was in 4th grade, and have continued to do it ever since. I have even helped out family and friends at times, but really I need to get back to college and finnish my CPA
