TRUMP FOR PRESIDENT ???

I cannot wait till the debates!!! Whether we want him or not I don't know. I don't know his political thoughts. But I can't wait to hear his opinions on the deficit and debt. Woo woo!!!
Maybe they will all learn some good things from him . . . and then again, maybe being a CEO doesn't teach one to run a country.

Well, it at least taught him economics. Let him run the economy. He could be an advisor or something. By the way, what kind of job would teach you how to run the country if not being a CEO? (Really, I can't think of another that would.)

Running an extremely large Corporation happens to be a lot like running a country. I don't know much about him but one thing he has in his favor is name recognition. That will help. Like others I can't wait to hear his ideas.

You are kidding right? The Donalds companies are always filing for bankruptsy. His casinos filed for bankruptsy in 2005. I dont think I want him running this country.

I just knew he was going to do this. I don't think it will do much, except inject some of his ideas into the dialogue. I have heard some of them. He is very protectionist, and is outraged over the collapse of the American steel industry and the subsidy of outsourcing of jobs (I agree with him there).

I find myself wanting to run into that protectionist corner in the last 6 months.
Just for time to think and get our own land running again; but it is already too one worldish to try :)

I agree, but perhaps a few tariffs on things we could easily make effectively here? I don't know really, history says tariffs lead to problems.

We're borrowing money from countries that still have tariffs in place, and protect their own industries, while Republican morons prattle on about "free" trade.

Trade isn't "free" if it destroys American jobs. Trade isn't "free" if it's one sided. Trade isn't "free" it the only purpose is for us to buy cheap junk at Walmart.

That's not just Republicans Ali. Democrats have a big stake in the free trade agreements as well. Let just say it's a neocon idea that does not do our country any good.

Char, I heard several talk about reinstating tariffs on Tv a few days ago.
I don't remember who it was ... just that I was surprised that they would even consider it.

I myself think we should reward the businesses that stay here just to be faithful to American workers. I have no strong feelings about challenging the rules we now have on free trade.

I honestly don't blame the businesses that left as they have to compete on the open market. Still want to reward those that stayed :)

For once, I have to agree with you George. NAFTA and GATT were bad Democratic ideas, but the decline of our industries definitely began with Ronald Reagan and his union busting and attacks on the middle-class.

I didn't know that Ali. No reason for China to have that advantage. She is HUGE now. And rich. I understand the small, poor countries charging something. But the truth is, we probably gave them a break even when we were receiving tariffs.

We were acting like we were going to be a rich country forever when we accepted those changes. Many warned of this problem & we didn't listen :) We learn the hard way I guess.

But we're not morons. And Walmart has been one of the most helpful store in America for all the many, many families that are lower on the totem pole. It allows them to get clothes and gifts and food. Walmart is great. She's done some things wrong & had to straighten them out, but all in all, she's been great for America.

Col. George is a very smart man. HE has lived long enough and seen enough to be a very good judge of what will fix this country. I was taught to respect my elders and listen to them because their life experiences turned into a Great wisdom!

Ali, The unions are what sent the jobs away, not Bush or Reagan busting them. Reagan said the airline industry was essential to the safety of the country. That is what you are referring to. The lower costs of non union wages are bankrupting the areas that once were their strongholds, as jobs go where they are not. That is why they are now getting their lobbyists to put sweeteners in the bills for them. Must use union labor, labor is exempt... That stuff must stop.

Lowering our tariff barriers in the pursuit of "free" trade made it easier for jobs to be offshored: it opened the floodgates. Except the people who made these arrangements forgot to make sure that our trade partners had the same provisions for our products. Most of our exports used to be manufactured goods: now most of our exports are agricultural products. Most of China's exports used to be agricultural products: now they're manufactured goods.

I can't believe that formerly sentient people think that Americans should make less money so that we can compete with third world countries.

How can we make more money if the cost of our goods is so high nobody will buy them?

How can we sell goods when our goods have tariffs and our competitors don't?

We didn't make money selling goods to poor nations, we were mostly self sustaining. The majority of Americans made enough money thanks to the unions, that we bought what we manufactured plus what other nations manufactured! We were our strongest THEN!

Because the other countries didn't have the infrastructure to manufacture for 1/3 the cost like they do now. They do not pay the labor rates americans expect.

How low do we go? $1.00 per hour, 50 cents per hour? Meanwhile, the value of everything in this country drops like a rock. Everything we invested in gone! Will the banks re-adjust our home loans to match our third world wages?

It's the right wing's race to the bottom, Thomas, and they expect Americans to just shut up and take it. They've cleverly pitted private sector versus public sector, union vs. non-union, and don't see how everyone loses.

If you can't support yourself on less, you surely won't support yourself on none! There is nowhere in the US that builds TV's. Almost all electronics are build overseas. Even most of our food is imported, or exported, processed and sent back. Get real, if we don't face the fact of the world market, we won't have anything. The wealth we have is flowing out. We have to get some flowing in! This means we have to make something to export at a price the world will pay.

I agree with that simple statement. The other countries are not exercising "free trade" towards us, whereas we live up to the agreements. Where is the honor in being a doormat? We need to either tarriff up, or refuse to trade with the cheaters at all! The problem with that is that we need EVERYTHING they make, and they can get our money through a third party.

We don't need everything they make if we can make it here. We can return manufacturing to America. Our decline started when we went from a manufacturing based economy to an economy that was falsely based on the premise that "The world is flat".

It's only flat if someone is being massively exploited.

I agree we need to make it here, we tried that, but Americans preferred the prices for the goods made at lower labor prices, and we are right back to the point I began with. We can't afford inflated labor rates.

Ali, the whole Union business is strange. We desperately needed them to wring out the selfishness of the corporate world. BUT . . . when the Unions are on top they become just as corrupt as big business.
What we need is a balance, or at least a threatened balance. Frankly I had neighbors that worked for General Motors and I was appalled at the money and benefits they got. They would have 6 months off & draw full salary. No wonder foreign cars are less expensive.
The government wants to give Unions too much power. First of all, they will be corrupt. 2nd, they demand unreasonable amounts when they are too big. To nationalize unions is the most ignorant thing a thinking person can do. To force employees to accept and pay union members would be illegal since forcing us to buy insurance was declared illegal.
Feds need to back out.
Unions should be able to offer their services to anyone. Employees should be able to accept the services of any union.
Just knowing the unions are out there is a threat to many employers and many have chosen to treat their employees more than fair just to keep unions out. That's perfect. That's free enterprise. It works.
Every power needs a counter power. Business and Unions offer that. The government should not put their foot on the scale on behalf of the unions.

A question Ali,
You said above that we could get manufacturing back. Do you have any ideas how? Have you read about possibilities? The only thing I can think of is maybe many small businesses will rise up but they can only be partially successful because they have to ask for more than large companies. And would probably not see much to other countries.

I thought about closing our doors to companies that leave USA but there are such big markets elsewhere they would stay where they are. Maybe start a smaller arm over here for Americans :)

And the whole business of blaming unions for "inflated labor rates" is just unmitigated frightwing BS. Unions only constitute less than 10% of manufacturing jobs in the United States. If our labor rates were so out of line, why do companies like BMW, Mercedes, Toyota, Subaru, Nissan and Hyundai build factories here?

You want to return manufacturing here? Make a requirement that government contract purchases contain 80 % US content and labor for a start. Then the ancillary industries that support those products will start switching to US products, and it will cascade down the line.

Protect our industries at the same rates that other countries protect their industries. For companies in countries that don't allow our products at a reasonable rate, require them to build factories here if they want to sell products here.

There's nothing that we can't build here: we need to stop thinking that the Asian and European producers can do things better than we can.

When the Japanese had their "Cash for Clunkers" program, they excluded American built cars. The move was largely symbolic, since we don't sell many cars there. When we had ours, we included non-American manufacturers: we didn't protect our manufacturers.

Believe in American exceptionalism instead of just giving it lip service and making excuses. We can do anything, and do it better than anyone else, but we're being told we can't compete with third world countries that treat their workers like slaves, and steal our best ideas.

We need to make this revival a priority, and instead we're getting a bunch of bought and paid for Repubs whose main priority is NOT creating jobs, but providing socialism for the upper 2%. That's where we are, and we know what we need to do, but no one is doing it.

I don't know if he'll be good or not but he can't be worse than what we've had for 12 years. So many trillions of dollars in debt and helping other countries and not our own people is no way to live!

I'm glad you pointed that out Sandi. I was looking at a different aspect. He does love us all and want to GIVE life to anyone that wants Him.
But as the end gets closer immorality will increase. At that point I don't know if He would choose to respond to prayer to postpone the tribulation of those days or not. But He is certainly available to anyone till this whole birthing process is over.
My one prayer I have always prayed is that He would let us continue to let have our own children under our authority until He comes.
Also, there's the possibility that if peace resulted in so many hearts getting colder, maybe it wouldn't be a show of love just now for Him to continue to give peace. BUT, I guess He can figure it out on His own :)

The Donald as President? Well,a lot of people are looking at Mitt Romney to apply a little business sense to our economy,but many remember his experiment with socialized medicine in Massachussetts; Trump would be a good alternative.

That could be Rose. I don't know yet. But the thing that made me excited was to hear what he has to say in the debates. He took himself from claiming bankruptcy (according to Ali) to being a billionaire. I want him to tell us how to do that with our country :)
Also, I've wondered if Presidents ever called on CEO's for their thoughts. I would mail copies of our income and budget + debt and set up a meeting in about a month with some of my own people. Wouldn't it be interesting to hear some of these talented people discuss possibilities?
So finally, maybe I'll get to hear a CEO give advice.

I'm sure he'll have no problem proving he was born in NY, and for starters that's a good thing. I just don't like the guy. Of course, I don't like anybody, so I'm told.

Seriously, he may have the abilities, but I just find him so full of himself from any interviews I've ever watched that I would find it difficult to believe he could put this country and its people before his own agenda. Since that is the way it is with the majority of politicians in general, even when you think they might have some integrity and empathy, I am not too inclined to endorse one who has such an obvious penchant for self.

I think he would have much trouble sharing authority with so many others. He is used to being THE King pen :) He better weigh that before the big decision :)

I agree that Obama is a narcissist. I don't know how serious a personality disorder it is, but I certainly believe narcissism and the presidency do not go well together. I am no psychiatrist, but my guess is narcissists tend to be very rigid and that they have problems admitting that they are ever wrong.

In spite of his ego, I have noticed the Donald listens when other people talk. There is something trustworthy about someone who actually listens to others before making a decision, no matter how confident they are. It makes you think they value their opinion highly enough to have the facts before deciding!

Sigh, if he is the best the GOP can do, I can scratch another candidate off the list.

Funny Thomas :) IT doesn't matter if he's white. Ordinarily it wouldn't matter if he was rich. But in this instance, it is a successful person ... one that knows how to be efficient; knows people; understands the market; has a good work ethic that we need. Also, going from bankruptcy to being a billionaire gives some hope that he may have an intellect big enough to help turn us around.
The problem is, unless we, the people, allow him to make decisions that will cause a loss for us temporarily, there's nothing that can be done. We have to be willing to do with much less for quite a long time like our parents did long ago.

"Does it really matter?" Not when you consider eternity. But for the present, I would like to stabilize the country so we can continue to raise our children and allow them to raise children without any authority butting into my rights on them.

I don't know enough about Trump's political ideas, will be interesting to have him in the race. I'm rooting for Ron Paul though, I know where he stands, he may be the only one that could reverse some of the government growth we have seen.

I was afraid to vote for Ron as it seemed it would let the liberals get in. But I'm very interested to hear him also. He isn't afraid to stand along. He will do right just because it is the right thing to do. I believe that. Hopefully he will be an influence on many in Congress.

I bet he and his son spend hours and hours swapping stories in the next few years :)

I'd vote for Trump in a heartbeat.....how refreshing it would be, to have someone "brand new" in....NOT a lifer/career politician, for a change.........I am so sick of all these "lifetime" politicians...I don't care what party it is.....why should any of them be allowed to stay in Congress for 15, 20, 30, 40 years? No Angela. Any one that has the money to campaign can run. Lots of Mayor's run. Their experience running a state makes them a pretty good candidate.
President Obama had hardly any experience and it really shows. I think it was about 2 yrs he spent as a legislature, and then he skipped most of the votes. I think he didn't want to leave a trail that someone might criticize.

This President has circumvented the will of the people and the law by stretching every possible advantage beyond what the law intended. Going around the will of the rules to have the houses approve of his advisors by handling Czars.
Also, by having the FCC takeover the rule of the internet. Regarding that Boehner says,

We should NOT abolish the office of the president. Our problems result as much from the actions of Congress as they do from the actions of the President. As much as I dislike Obama, I have to admit that people like Nancy Pelosi have done far more damage than our current President. Congress controls the purse strings and it more than any one president has spent our money like drunken sailors.

We've been foolish for a long time. People buying bigger houses than they could afford; running their charge accounts up higher than they could afford to furnish their houses and buy cars and boats and on and on and on.

I don't want to bail the people out. I don't want to bail the businesses out. I don't want to bail the banks or the states out.
Let everything fall where it may and then start again. I have no idea what would happen but to continue as is would be totally foolish.
We just to to choose to accept the consequences no matter the price.

I agree that the states should not be bailed out. I also think people who bought homes they could not afford and individuals who have overused charge cards ought not to be bailed out. Public corporations, including banks, are a trickier matter. Millions of ordinary people probably own shares in them. Letting them fail could actually ruin huge numbers of older retirees living on fixed incomes and young people who were setting aside money for retirement. Keep in mind that they probably would have been in the dark about the risky nature of those companies' investments. After all, how many people actually know what CDSs are? The states, home buyers and people who overused their credit cards, on the other hand, knew what they were doing and deserve little or no sympathy; they knew they were acting irresponsibly.

Those are good things to think about Dave. Actually, I'm so uneducated in that area I shouldn't have an opinion :)
I do know, of course, that individuals can and should live within their means.
Gov't didn't help any when they pressured banks to make dangerous loans. That's why Gov't should stay out of business :)

I like Cain as well; Right now,he's the only one who's got an exploratory committee formed. You never know; He could surprise everybody.

If I thought he could get the presidency, I'd probably be bold enough to vote for Ron Paul this coming 2012. But I'm afraid that would split the conservative vote and President Obama would get back in.
I guess I'd like it if the Republicans asked him to run as their candidate. If not, Herman Cain or Donald Trump might work. :) We'll see after the first debate.

I cannot even imagine this prospect. I think this country is become a cartoon. I mean, look at the charactors? two dimentional and maybe even entertaining if it didn't mess with my own life.
