The CW has had Dawn Ostroff in charge of the network for a long time, and it's hard to imagine someone else in her spot. However, it looks like that could change once this season is over, and fans have to wonder if this will affect their favorite series.
OstroffÂ’s Contract Is Over Soon
The CW’s entertainment president, Ostroff, could be making a move at the end of the season in June when her contract ends with the network. Deadline has reported that she’s considering this change “to relocate to New York with her kids,” and who can fault her for that? Nothing has been confirmed yet, but she will reportedly make an announcement in early 2011. She originally lived in New York when she worked for Lifetime, but when she had to move to Los Angeles to be in charge of UPN in 2002, her husband Mark couldn’t leave with her and their children, making for a pretty long weekend commute. She “is the longest-running sitting broadcast entertainment president,” and right now is putting things together for the CW’s midseason and 2011 fall season. Dawn Ostroff has been doing a good job with the network (just look at popular new series such as The Vampire Diaries, Nikita, and Hellcats and seasoned favorites Smallville and Supernatural, which hold down Friday nights), keeping it as “only one of two networks in positive territory year-to-year, along with CBS.” But could changing the head of the network affect the future of some of the current shows? Whoever takes over would have to look at the numbers and see whether or not the series has been positive for the network and should also look at the fan response if the show were to be taken off air (just look at what happened with Chuck over on NBC—the fans have kept that series running as long as it is).
Will you be sad to see Dawn Ostroff leave the CW if she does in June?
