April 1946 was the time this issue of Doc Savage came out. ( I am reading the Bantam reprints with the incredible covers.)

This issue is really odd. To me Doc Savage is adventurer of wild new land, super new science weapons, and evil that must be beat.

This time Doc doesn't even show up till the story is half over.  No weapons of annihilation, no strange lands, just a boring sea and some half ass pirates.The only twist the pirates uses submarines instead of ships.  No wonder why Doc Savage folded.

This story was dead before the fifth chapter. Not recommended at all.

I see! Do you watch that show 'Hollywood Treasure' on SyFy? One day they showed the very first comic issue where Superman appeared ('Amazing Stories' or something like that). But the guy didn't want to sell it. We used to always enjoy reading those adventure magazines like Argosy and Saga, especially when they featured Bigfoot (we were always going to search for him). Also I used to get Sports Illustrated many years ago, and some of them had stories by Ernest Hemingway! They may still be up in our attic. Thanks for posting this!
