Are you referring to the dreaded fruit cake? I actually have not had since I was a kid. I did not like it then but now that I am grown up I might. I would certainly give it a try if I was offered some.

that is indeed the DREADED FRUIT CAKE~~ love the stuff but I think that I first sampled it as a child and loved it even then!! I was a strange child indeed lol

My mother made wonderful dark fruit cake. I tried but mine was not as good. I hate those fruit cakes from the stores. No wonder they have such a bad rep.

then I'm missing something then!! All I have ever had was the store versions and if you can like them... I can't even imagine how a home made cake would taste!!

I"ve never had Christmas cake, but I bet it is has nuts in it.....I'm allergic, so I'll pass.

I've never had Christmas cake. I could go without dessert, I'm not really a sweets person (though I enjoy baking oddly).

I will eat it, it's not that bad, actually. I especially like the cakey kind of fruit cake. I could eat the whole thing in one sitting.

well, enjoy the holidays and then forget the diet... I have to watch my sugar, so it means that I eat 6 times a day. You would be amazed at how much you lose when you never stop eating!

I only eat my dad's fruitcake(made from scratch using pound cake and dried fruits). If it were served to me somewhere I could probably choke it down, but I don't really like it (other than my dad's)

Make mine a small piece, and top it with whipped cream. I have a version that I have to get the starter for and make. It is much different from what you get in the store.

That sounds interesting... I've never heard of a Christmas cake that calls for a starter! You could have Christmas Cake year round!

I'm not sure what the origins are... but it's pretty much a fruit cake with lots of dried fruit, sometimes marzipan iced and sometimes covered with nuts... Whatever the version... it's amazing good!
