The "Branson Belle" is a stern paddle wheel boat and somehow, with the aide of 50 mile per hour winds, in about 8 degree weather, it ran aground.
More than 600 passengers and crew on the Showboat Branson Belle prepared to spend the night on the vessel on Table Rock Lake late Saturday after high winds caused it to run aground.
At 11 p.m., officials standing by at the site at Poverty Point had decided it was best to let winds calm before trying to move the boat to where those onboard could disembark.
Lisa Rau, publicist for Herschend Family Entertainment, which owns the boat, said the 4 p.m. cruise began having problems with propulsion around 6 p.m. A tug boat was called for assistance, but wind picked up and the boat ran aground.
