An Oregon man has officially changed his name to Captain Awesome.
This is the second time the unemployed cabinet installer was before a Lane County judge in an attempt to have his name officially changed to mirror the character on NBC’s Chuck, Dr. Devon "Captain Awesome" Woodcomb.
Â
"I just thought it was really funny that Devon's father always called him Captain Awesome because 'a poor nickname builds good character,'" he told the Register-Guard.
The first judge refused and told him to retain an attorney, thinking that it was a prank.
But Mr. Awesome, formerly known as Douglas Allen Smith Jr., decided to attempt again on his own, and finally won over Judge Douglas Mitchell.
After making sure Smith was sincere, he formally accepted the name change and pronounced him first name, Captain; surname, Awesome. Along with his new name a superhero new signature as well: a right-pointing arrow, a smiley face, and a left-pointing arrow.
Unfortunately, his bank thought it was not quite that awesome, and has refused to let him use his new signature as it is too easily forgeable.
