Women Held for 10 Days in a Closet, Raped

When I heard this on local news the other day, I thought it sounded more like one of the crime shows that hubby and I sometimes watch, not something you'd expect to happen in your own area.

 

 

 

 

Police say a southwest Ohio man bound a woman and held her captive for 10 days in a closet, raping her 18 times before she finally escaped by jumping out of a second-story window.

William Hobert Manis, 44, was jailed Friday on 18 counts of rape and one count of kidnapping, say Hamilton city police.

The alleged victim, who admitted to being a prostitute, said she voluntarily met Manis for sex, but that he then hit her over the head repeatedly and bound her hands and feet before nailing her inside a closet, according to CBS affiliate WKRC. The woman said she was held against her will and raped twice a day from Nov. 16 to Nov. 26.

Manis reportedly fed and bathed the woman every other day and told her that he was going to "train her," according to WKRC. On Friday, when Manis had a visitor and did not nail the closet door shut, the woman - still bound - jumped out a second story window and ran to a neighbor's house for help.

Police arrested Manis shortly after the neighbor called 911.

This woman is lucky that she was able to escape and that she wasn't killed.  I'm glad that she has moved back with her family and intends to go back to school.  I do hope she gets lots of psychological help.
